With how the Mountain West has performed overall this year OOC, it is going to be a really tall order to argue an undefeated SMU or Tulane over Boise State.
Even though I believe the American has a comparable resume, Boise's in-conference schedule gets the nod by that virtue. I think if Boise State loses a game and SMU wins the conference, there's your way in, Ponies.

MW has beeen really good vs P5, maybe the best any G5 has been in the CFP era. But, they have been mediocre vs other G5, whereas the AAC has a sterling G5 record. That's why the computers have the AAC #1.
In the end, I agree with you, an unbeaten Boise will be tough for an unbeaten AAC champ to dislodge, but IMO that will have more to do with the inertia of Boise being ahead to start, and also their brand name, rather than conference strength.

And say what you will about Boise, but their fans travel big time to bowls. They’ll pack the Cotton Bowl.

Memphis got absolutely screwed by the refs
Yes, in fact, after that 4th down play by Memphis, I had turned the game off, because I was rooting for Temple, and when Memphis made that very lucky play to get the first down, I assumed they'd kick the field goal to win the game, and I didn't want to see that. I had seen them showing the replay, but it was obvious that the Memphis TE had just made a good catch, carefully cradling the ball to make sure it didn't hit the ground.
I was stunned when I flipped back a couple minutes later and Temple had the ball, I initially assumed Memphis had somehow missed the short FG, but then saw on the play by play that the ball had been ruled incomplete.
Texas Tech just got majorly hosed. In the first OT Baylor center snapped the ball off of his own butt and Tech recovered. The officials wrongly called it an illegal snap, didn't review it and gave it back to Baylor who then scored. It's the worst call of the season so far.

The issues folks might miss in this game if they didn't watch it are:
1. Georgia never did anything to win this game and South Carolina really took it to them the whole game.
2. Muschamp played to win and Kirby played not to lose.
Yes, SC richly deserved to win, they out-hit, out-hustled, and most astonishingly, out-smarted Georgia all day long. Which is amazing, considering that Kirby Smart's football IQ is about 90 points hire than Will Muschamp's.
It's as if the 2009 Lions out-hit the 2009 Patriots, and Matt Millen out-foxed Bill Belichik. You just wouldn't think it possible.
I seriously doubt there will be a more surprising result all season.

Got to help those undefeated teams stay undefeated...

Actually it's been happening that way since the 2nd year of the CFP. So whether in jest or not, I don't think you're wrong.

The booth must have had some angle I missed?
IMO, I watched the game live and after looking at it multiple times on TV the refs made the correct call. The announcers ended up agreeing as well. Go to the 2:04:30 mark in the video...
Watching Nebraska football's like having a homeless relative that you know is gifted and has so many people caring for him, and yet he just can't help self-destructing. Someone gives him $20 so he can clean up? He goes and buys a bottle of hooch and finds a bench. Someone new takes him under his wing, tries to bring out the wasted potential and make it so they can put their problems behind them and flourish? It all goes in one ear and out the other, and it isn't long until he's back where he feels he belongs, with a bottle in hand and a newspaper over his shoulders.
Five coaches now that this program keeps going back to the bottle of empty bravado, stupid penalties, butterfingered turnovers, and a pillow-soft mentality that melts like an action figure in a microwave the moment someone gets the jump on them. It's a testament to the fanbase that they're still willing to sell out every year just to watch the three ring circus come to Lincoln 7 or 8 times a fall and put on a clown show that'd make Bozo proud. It's almost remarkable how the team can manage to do so little with so much. And spare me the talk of Texas talent, they did the same crap with a bunch of Texans on their team, just like they're doing it now with a bunch of Californians instead. They could pull in players from the effing moon and it'd be the same result, 3 turnovers, 10 penalties for 110 yards and another season outside of the top 25, and a plateful of excuses and self-congratulatory horse-shed about how well they practiced and how the other team is oh-so-tough and they'll just work harder next time.
No, I'm not drunk, but I think it'd help about now.
