Detroit News Hawk story

Sounds like Hawk is resigned to not coming back. You can hear it in his words. "I have trust in KB and the prez, I'm not bothered to be in my last year," blah blah blah.

Interesting to learn his salary is $380,000. That goes pretty far in Kzoo.

I had forgotten that this was his last year in the contract. It has gotta make it more difficult in recruiting. Wish we could know what he needs to do to get a new contract. Is it getting back to .500? Winning the MAC west?

They know who Hawkins is in Detroit?04-jawdrop

$380K is minuscule to what TL brings in. Can see why he'd want a basketball-focused school.

Per the posters on here, he'll get an extension no matter how he does because our admin doesn't care about Ws/Ls.

Almost exactly the same salary as Andy Murray

RE: Detroit News Hawk story
I'd like to see Hawkins stay until HE is ready to retire, frankly.

He runs a great program and recruits-for the most part-quality players. Yeah, we had that issue with the kid from Muskegon, but outside of that we've avoided the kind of embarrassments that plague many big programs.

The winning has not been there recently, no question. And Hawks salary incentives might be adjusted to assure he's aware that needs to change. This is a business that demands performance.

But, I like Hawks and I like his program. We could do a lot worse. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd like to see him stay.

I’m right there with you BP even though I’ve been part of the “Hawkins, he’s gotta go!” thread several times. There have been a lot of frustrating years recently but usually it’s for reasons outside of his control (mainly injuries). I’d like him to stick it out and see if he can turn this thing around.

Would have to take him to get up to .500 this year for me to be on-board.

Problem is, if they get up to .500 this year and next year's a step back again.

He has been here 16 years (or so).

The administration knows what he is, and what he isn't.

The fact that he hasn't been offered a contract extension says something.

I'm hoping that he earns an offer for an extension this season

Whoever is coaching next year should have a very solid roster (assuming BJ doesn't do a "grad transfer").

Hawk would be a good transition into the athletic department. He has done a lot for Western already.

2019-20 team only has two senior players and probably good chance neither will make rotation for MAC games.
2020-21 should have solid chance to improve even more.
