I see Steve Forbes is back on the voting committee this year. Furple and UNC-G are 15 and 16, with Wofford 37th. And..........then there's a rather huge gap between #'s 1 and 2 Gonzaga and St. Mary's, and ETSU. Then the voting points take a more typical spacing.

First College Insider Mid-Major poll

Yes we need to beat people on the court and let that take care of it.

Wow. Love the level-headed, temperate tone of some of your all's posts. Refreshingly cautious after the last 3 years' preseason's wild optimism. (And yes, I know, that's a generalization. 03-wink)

This board may have been wildly optimistic but this is the first year since Forbes has been here that ETSU has been the preseason favorites.

That got me thinking how many times has the preseason favorite won since Forbes has been here:

2016: Chattanooga they WON
2017: Chattanooga they LOST and ETSU won
2018: Mercer they LOST and UNCG won
2019: UNCG they LOST and Wofford won

So the preseason rankings have been wrong every year except 2016.

2018 is an interesting year because they weren't even close. Mercer and Samford were picked 1 and 2. UNCG was picked 5th, ETSU picked 4th.

Then last year Wofford dominated the conference but were picked 2nd.

In 2017 Chattanooga was expected to dominate because they brought everyone back (like us this year). They started out hot but completely melted down towards the end.

RE: Preseason Favorite
Bump - for discussion or reflection....

Note this quote from CBS:
"Say hello to this season's second-best team from a traditional one-bid conference. (Harvard is tops.) Steve Forbes is likely to parlay a terrific Buccaneers season into a power-conference job come late March 2020. (He's earned it.) ETSU could be this year's Wofford: dominant SoCon team, enough to swipe a single-digit seed."
