Would Army take a ND-like deal with the AAC?
What do you all think about a 5 game deal between the AAC and Army?:

2 Home games (rotating)
2 Away games (rotating)
1 Neutral site game with Navy (AAC gets tv rights on years Navy is the Home team)

Those 4 Army games would help ease scheduling problems in November associated with having an odd number of teams.

They could conceivably give Army bowl access too, if Army would prefer that to the deals they are already getting on their own.

Any chance Navy might prefer this type of deal to what they have now?

What's the advantage for Army though? They don't need money and already have their other sports in a conference they like.

Their November/December schedules seem pretty decent for what they're trying to do as well:

2019: @Air Force, Umass, VMI, @Hawaii, Navy
2020: @SJSU, @Umass, Air Force, Navy

Obviously, there is more benefit to the AAC than there is to Army. Army does not have any difficulty scheduling games as an Independent. Difficult to see a fit here.

Army and Navy are never giving up their TV money from the Army-Navy game. N-E-V-E-R.

I think Army's fine with how and who it schedules. They play enough of the schools they like and don't have to worry about other commitments the way others in a conference might. Enough schools and conferences seem fine with them floating anywhere on the schedule.

It's interesting to me to see their name floating out there for the AAC, when it used to be the MAC not terribly long ago. Honestly, Army won't have issues getting schools from either of those conferences onto the schedule.

Im wondering what the advantage is for the AAC. We seem to be more than capable of scheduling Army if we want---I dont see it being very smart to give away one our bowl slots every year. The first time a member who is 6-6 has to sit home while Army is in a bowl----the deal will be seen as a failure. Army is a great team. I'd be happy to add them as a true football only member. If Army wants to do a scheduling alliance---that would be absolutely fine---but no bowl access. Otherwise, the current situation where the individual members schedule them when it is mutually beneficial seems like the best way forward with regard to Army.

Without an arrangement like this that means that someone is either going to be sitting idle or need an OOC game each week in November.

Navy vs ND takes care of one weekend but you’ve got 3 more to fill. No one is going to want to play 12 weeks straight and take a bye in week 13. That pretty much leaves the independents as options.

Notre Dame needed the ACC to park all its other sports. Army has a home in the Patriot.

Playing a partial schedule in the AAC would make no sense for Army and no sense for the AAC.

But I'm on record favoring the American adding Army for football only and VCU for all sports but football. Alas, it is not going to happen.

That would work quite well.

Only weird thing would be what would they do if Army/navy somehow matched up in the AAC Champ Game? Play two weeks in a row?

Army FB-only to the AAC. What are they so afraid of? Guess they still have bad memories of their attempt in CUSA FB.

And the reason for that is for ND to use the major to mid Bowl ties the ACC has. Army is no Notre Dame anymore. Army has no problem signing lower bowls.

The Army-Navy game is one reason, among many, Army is not interested in joining the American. Joining would not work without significant compromises from both parties. It's just not practical. But I would like to see it.

Correct. Army does not need the American for full membership and the American does not need Army if it's a partial membership.

I see equal benefit and equal negatives. Not sure why partial membership would be more beneficial to the American than Army but maybe I'm missing something.
