As I said a few days ago, it was only 50 if you believe President Trump (which I don't at all). They may have moved 50 from one isolated spot right away, but that wasn't the actual number of troops in the region (nor was it going to be the final number of troops moved from the country total). I posted a link at the time that said the actual number of troops was closer to 1000 (which makes more sense anyway - 50 troops is practically nothing). It's also worth nothing we had double that last year but have already cut that in half.

And lo and behold, the Defense Secretary confirmed today that the U.S. is preparing to evacuate about 1000 troops from Northern Syria as safely and quickly as possible.

I just have no idea why anyone thinks anything that comes from Trump's mouth is believable.

ETA - post #96 in this thread is where I said I didn't believe Trump

RE: U.S. Stabbing the Kurds in the back???
I fully believe that this conflict between the Turks and Kurds was eventually going to happen anyway. Im not in favor of leaving our forces in place forever to prevent it. Im not sure this was the way to leave..but..leaving ALL of the region is a must. Im with Ron Paul on this. We caused a lot of our problems with our interference in the affairs of other countries in the region. At some point these factions are going to fight it out and unless we intend to stay there indefinitely?...We need to exit asap.

I would however like DJT to issue a warning to the world upon our exit....We pledge to stay out of the region..but... we will not tolerate any attacks on US assets going further and the response will be swift and totally devastating for any faction that does it. Don't beat around the bush...Let them know we will rain pure hell down on them from the air..until they ALL are dead.

Side note, bring our troops home. But we do have to be prepared for the consequences on turning our backs on a partner.

The left is utterly incapable of understanding relevance.
Trump isn't lying about the 50 in Syria. He's talking about the 50 in the relevant areas and misspeaking in saying "they are removed from Syria." You could be mislead if you didn't know the facts, but if you know the facts, you understand what he is saying.

Nobody had a clue what Obama meant about 57 states, but it was a case of misstatement, not that he was a total idiot clown who was president and didn't even know the number of states.

As for turning our backs on a partner, Turkey believes that Obama did that by arming the PKK.

Yeah it's a win. He promised to get us out of war. Democrats can vote for war. Astonishing how much hate the democrats have that they are now for war. Maybe if Trump said it caused global warming....

Obama made a total hash of Syria. He made a bunch of threats, and then did not put enough troops in to carry them out. It's an unwinnable war. Moreover, it's a war that there is nobody that we want to win. Never fight a war that you don't intend to win. Never, ever fight a war that you don't want anybody to win.

There are nothing but bad choices. In the land of, "My brother and I will fight my cousin, my cousin and I will fight te world," there are no true allies.

I'm fine with getting our people out of Incirlik, putting a total trade sanction against Turkey, and telling Erdogan we will nuke Ankara if he persists. Short of that, I don't know what we can do.

Yep, in football it would be (for me) not knowing who to root for, Notre Dame or Brigham Young as I don't like either team...but someone has to win.

Look, the Kurds might want a homeland and that's entirely all right but NO ONE would be willing to give it to them so it would be a war that has no end in sight. Neither Syria nor Turkey would want total enemies next door to their country and even if the Kurds did get land and call it their country there would not be peace anyway. They (all three countrys) would always have an excuse to go fight each other. "Mommy, he looked at me ugly" would qualify for a war with these idiots.

So your advocating a shooting war with Turkey, a NATO ally? Yeah---nobody ever would criticize Trump if that happened. I can hear it now, "Putin calling the shots as Trump undermines NATO". I think his Democrat congressional critics should team with his congressional Republican critics and call for a declaration of war against Turkey. Put it to a congressional vote. See how popular that is back home at Thanksgiving.

There are some troops on the southern border, helping protect the Syria-Jordan border. But they're only in two areas - along the Turkey border and along the Jordan border.

Trump didn't 'misspeak'. He deliberately tried to claim we were only talking about 50 troops in the whole area of Northern Syria so as to make the claim that it's a small presence (and that lie worked on at least two people in this thread).

He's always lying - but worse he makes decisions by himself without knowing all the facts and without talking to his advisors who actually know what the **** they're doing.

Here's his original (10/9) tweet which also included a link to the 2nd tweet from the White House information I'm posting.

Trump's tweet (my emphasis)
Fighting between various groups that has been going on for hundreds of years. USA should never have been in Middle East. Moved our 50 soldiers out. Turkey MUST take over captured ISIS fighters that Europe refused to have returned. The stupid endless wars, for us, are ending! https://twitter.com/twittermoments/statu...2850514947

That is less misleading than you implied. He did move our 50 soldiers out of the area.

As for this:

That is you just continuing to be gullible and believing the lies the MSM feeds to you.
I think there is conclusive proof over the last 25 years that a lot of these experts in every administration (Clinton, W., Obama, Trump) don't have a clue what they are doing. There is a decided lack of common sense and an echo chamber devoid of reality in many of these bureaucracies.

Trump does not make decisions without facts. Some "experts" just don't agree with his decisions. And some gullible people believe the continued MSM lies that he makes decisions without facts and without consulting anyone.

As for all these "lies," its the fact checkers that are lying. Trump is definitely a YUGE exaggerator. But there's a difference between marketing puffery and outright lying, like telling people your ambassador just got murdered because of some video when you know it was a planned attack.
