I'm not up in arms about removing troops from the area, just not in this way. It's a complete cluster**** which will kill those who helped us beat back ISIS, it endangers the lives of our allies and our troops still in the region, and it will more than likely result in a resurgence of ISIS, not to mention further destabilizing the region causing the need for us to get more involved.

You didn't answer the question.

How long should we keep troops in the region and what is the end game?

1 year, 8 months, and 7 days.
Total peace.

In other words you have no idea and this is just another case of "ORANGE MAN BAD!"

There is absolutely no reason why we should put a single US service member's life at risk to defend the Kurds from a fight that has been going on for a millennia and will continue to go on for another millennia. We can support the Kurds by supplying them with weapons, we do not need boots on the ground to give support.

That's really what it all comes back to. Trump. If the troops stayed and many got killed then they'd blame Trump for not bring them home. He withdraws the troops and they complain. What's the common denomintor? Trump. ANYTHING to make Trump look bad. The particular situation does not matter as they'll twist it any way possible to further their goal.

Exactly. Your answer? Crickets.

Dude, give us a ******* minute to answer...we don't exactly live here. 01-wingedeagle

Im talking about the critics in the press. None have a long term answer because there isnt one. Also, Im not convinced this is end of days that some are saying. If Trump has assurances that this will be an action that simply creates a 20 mile neutral zone, then its probably something that might make a longer term solution possible. The Turks arent completely wrong here. The KWP is a real issue and are completely different from the Kurds the US has worked with and supported. If the KWP is neutralized, maybe we can finally get to a point where there can be some sort of workable quasi-Kurd state created. If the Turks do not stop at the limited operation they have described---then I do believe we have a responsibility to not let the Kurds be swept away.

That said--lets not pretend that Obama isnt largely responsible for this situation and lets not pretend that the libtard press wasnt cheer leading Obama's decision to pull the troops out of Iraq prematurely.

Liz is a neocon. Intervention is good. I'm not an isolationist, but we need to be realistic and assess things on American interests, not some intangible moral standard.

Morally, I'm with the Kurds and would like to blast any Turks that cross the border. But in American interests, Turkey is important as an ally and NATO member. Its also important for Turkey to be stable both as a Democratic example to the Middle East and to avoid a flood of refugees into Europe.

We need to speak loudly, but carry a small stick and a thick wad of bills in this scenario.

Up in arms? I had three posts in this thread - one was merely copying and pasting Lindsay Graham's tweets (I thought it was amusing he was attacking Trump). Secondly, I mentioned how my nephew is in Turkey (and still is - I can post a photo of a giant statue he sent us today of Erdogan). And third, I posted that I don't trust Trump's tweets.

If you're looking to me for military advice, you're pretty desperate.

I don’t like it, but do not see a winning solution in this. Guess it brings on Ezekiel 39.

Everytime I come back here thinking "This... THIS is the embarrassment and disaster that can't be spun on this board" and every time I've been proven wrong.

I say this literally. Trump very much can shoot someone dead in the middle of 5th avenue, in broad daylight, on national television, and you people would find a way spin it. Every single damn one of you would be screaming treason if Obama even implied he was going to do this.

Not abandon the people that fought by our side and died with us, that's for sure. Not give in to the wants of a dictator in Turkey. Not pull the plug so suddenly, and with no plan, stunning elected officials on both sides of the aisle. WHY is he doing this NOW of all times?

I do have you on ignore, but entirely because I don't really understand your references and therefore what you are talking about lol

We support the Kurds the same reason we do the Israeli. For presence in the region primarily. The difference is they have shed so much more blood for our sake than the Israeli, We owe them. It is cowardly and wrong to turn our backs on them now.

Ok.

Tell me this: How many American lives should we put at risk in a fight that doesn’t concern us?

Nah, I'm not gonna play your little question game, which you've clearly already answered yourself.

I've said all I need to say. I'm sure you'll fall in line with your orange emperor and mentally prepare yourself for the next international embarrassment

Dems have really turned into the pro-endless war party due to their hatred of Trump. It's surprising given how anti-war they were when Bush was president.

That Democrats have managed to forfeit any remaining shred of credibility when it comes to foreign affairs does not excuse the same kind of ignorant support on the part of Trumpists.

I don't pretend to know the best option for this horrible situation. It may very well be that we have no better option that to turn our backs on the Kurds and allow them to be slaughtered by the genocidal Turks. But it inspires zero confidence when the response offered by the president is to tweet about how great and wise he is, and then suggest that the Kurds are not worth defending because they didn't fight with us in Normandy.

I have long ago dismissed the Democrats as unserious political hacks. Unfortunately, Trump supporters are not too far behind them.
