Houston GM made a tweet supporting the people of Hong Kong. China got mad and the NBA made him apologize for upsetting the communists

More woke culture hypocrisy

If he gets fired, its time for an NBA boycott in the USA.

Don't know if any of you watch South Park, but a recent episode was making the point about American entertainment, specifically Disney, selling their integrity for access to the China market.

RE: NBA woke culture doesnt apply to Commusint Countries
The Rockets billionaire owner Tilman Fertitta has already tried to distance the Rockets from the Darryl Morey tweet but sometimes statements like these are the kiss of death.

Tilman Fertitta to ESPN: “I have the best general manager in the league. Everything is fine with Daryl and me. We got a huge backlash, and I wanted to make clear that [the organization] has no [political] position. We’re here to play basketball and not to offend anybody.”

Tilman Fertitta (earlier tweet)

Listen....@dmorey does NOT speak for the @HoustonRockets. Our presence in Tokyo is all about the promotion of the @NBA internationally and we are NOT a political organization

I find it hard to believe that they'll fire him after he engineered the Westbrook deal during the offseason.

K.

Fire him for his rather atrocious grammar if not.

Thought this was “Rice”?!?

Face it folks, the insanity has become insane. And that’s not Necs a good population to have around you...

I'm pretty much already there, but not for political reasons. I just find the current brand of NBA ball almost impossible to watch. Throw it around the perimeter until somebody jacks up a 3. This is clearly not the Bird-Magic or the Russell-Wilt NBA, and I find it unwatchable.

On the other hand, its better than the 2 man game the Rockets perfected with Hakeem. 3 guys to one side. Hakeem in the middle. One guard passing it back and forth with him until you get one on one with Hakeem or the other side gets called for an illegal zone. Or in most cases, the refs ignore what was then an illegal zone and let 3 guys mug Hakeem.

I was a fan of the Rockets, and of Hakeem since his UH days, so I definitely cheered them on in their glory days, but I agree, that was hardly beautiful basketball, either.

I originally laughed at the thought of Morey being fired, but I just read the Nets owner’s open letter about how the Rockets, who were previously China’s favorite team, are now basically blacklisted. They won’t even be televising their games anymore.

They’re in a tough spot, and I have little confidence that the world’s best coconut shrimp salesman handles it properly.

NBA looks incredibly hypocritical with this look. Will be fascinating to watch them attempt to maneuver this story.

But he might be the luckiest. Just ask old man Landry, if he's still alive. He'll need all that luck.

Morey has come up in my estimation, but this could be the end for him.

I just read the ESPN article where Harden (standing alongside Westbrook) literally apologized for it.

So to recap:

Liberals were furious at President Trump for not taking a hardline stance against China in support of Hong Kong.

Simultaneously, they're quiet and unsure how to react now that the NBA and their "woke" athletes are actively engaged in apologies to the Chinese state for clamping down on anti-communist protestors.

Where's Tommy and his friends to come in here and defend this... crickets.

Where are the mouths of Kerr, LeBron and Popovich. They are so great at attacking conservatives yet mute at a communist dictatorship. Guess I won’t be going to any Jazz games or buying stuff this year.

Well they cheer on Google for refusing to work with the US military, but helping the Chinese military suppress their people and commit ethnic cleansing against their Muslim minority in the west.
