That's why we'll see fewer and fewer grad transfers in that position. His own recruits will be playing soon. I agree that an effective patchwork offensive line is hard to put together. O-linemen need to be playing together for long periods of time to become one cohesive unit. Plugging holes doesn't usually work too well, but what else can be done when your own guys aren't ready, and there aren't enough offensive linemen on the roster?

What Bloomgren has done is improve defense and kicking game. Bailiff managed to have two great kickers in Boswell and Martens, and still have a bad overall kicking game, because execution of the basics was so poor.

He has come fairly close to the approach I would take. I would say improve the defense and kicking game, and then run whatever offense best utilizes the talents you have. Sometimes it might be Hat's option, sometimes it might be Ruowls's West Coast passing game, sometimes it might be some hybrid of the two, sometimes it might be something totally different. The more contrarian, and hence difficult for defenses to prepare for, the better.

Bloomgren's "pound the rock" works great if you can get the people to run it. I don't see where we get the o-linemen who can pancake defenders and hold blocks, and without holes it doesn't matter how good your running backs are. I also don't think we can recruit the kind of drop back passer required to make the passing game work, and as we are seeing now, if you can't keep the secondary off the running game, you're not going to run very far. I am actually starting to think the QB may be the hardest position to find a suitable athlete.
