Thanks for the correction. I foolishly just repeated what Reghi and Fox said on the ESPN broadcast yesterday. You’d think I’d know better as many times as I’ve heard Reghi do MAC games.
At one point they said we were being forced to use our 5th string RB which was a name I'd never heard. I was thinking how have I not heard of one of our RBs. Then when he was getting carries for Akron too I realized they were looking at the wrong roster... Which seemed to happen a lot.
Watched the game yesterday with a friend who as done a better job than me of being an active alumnus.
At the conclusion of the game he says " 3 wins with 6 games to go we have a shot at a bowl game."
Also stated doing this with a brutal non conference schedule and lack of support from the administration.
When I asked him to clarify he said.
"Do you think it's strange that only the football coach was tasked to fund raise new turf for the indoor facility? This practice turf is used by every team that plays outdoors."

These next two games could go a long way to deciding who we are in the East race. If we take both of them we'll essentially have no worse than a 2 game lead on everyone with 4 games left. If we split we're at worst tied for first in the East. If we lose them both we've got an up hill battle and are probably not a real contender.
One comment I meant to make about the Akron game. It was pretty cool to see Matthews have a career day since he's been here for 5 years and this is the first time he's got his hands on the wagon wheel.

For a bowl bid I'd still say a long shot, but is a huge improvement. I don't see us getting a bid with 6 wins. We have 6 games left and need to win 4 of those.
We were screwed by our 3 not winnable games.

I still don't know what to make of this team. We either played teams that are AAA NFL teams or pee-ons. Just not enough information at this time.

One of those “pee-ons” just hammered a very good 4-1 Toledo team. Kent State is in first place with half a season to go. You are allowed to be happy.

The MAC has 5 primary bowls and 2 secondary bowls. As of right now the MAC here is the race to bowl eligibility.
2 wins needed WMU (5), CMU (5), UT (6)
3 wins needed KSU (6), EMU (6), BSU (6)
4 wins needed NIU (6), OU (6), MU (6), BG (6), UB (6)
6 wins needed UA (6)

As of now, supposed "bowl expert" Jerry Palm has 6 MAC schools in: Western, Eastern, NIU, Ball State, Buffalo, Ohio & Toledo.

It's hard to get a read on anyone in the MAC this year. At the midway point, does anyone really stand out? Ball State has the most impressive conference wins, but would anyone bet on them winning the West?
Regardless of who we've played, we have taken care of business. Our two MAC wins have been by an average of 30+ points. We're in first place with a chance to make a statement in Athens on Saturday. Let's enjoy it!

RE: Wagon Wheel Week
So on the Collegefootballnews.com - they have a midseason ranking of all the D1 football coaches. We know Sean Lewis is doing a good job this year, but they have him ranked 35th out of 130, so that's pretty good..."Is the whole FlashFast thing starting to work? So Kent State lost to Arizona State, Auburn and Wisconsin … it won the three games it had a shot at winning. In his second year, Lewis is doing the impossible and starting to improve the program."
To put 35th in perspective, that's right between Pat Narduzzi at Pitt in 36th and Dabo Swinney of Clemson at 34th

Winning winnable games is something we haven't done much of in 7 years, so we're heading in the right direction. The real barometer of our progress comes this Saturday!
