BS has lost the offense and pretty sure by the reaction of some of the defensive coaches and players during the game he has lost them also. Why would you not try a different QB? Is it ego or pride? If your new offense is only getting 50 yards in a half of football change up!!! go tempo 4 or 5 wide man you killing me with your stubbornness. Ya'll can't keep saying ur missing players, players get hurt all the time. But like a old coach once told me coaches don't change because they do what they know...and to old to try to change.

Indeed 03-thumbsup

That BW didn't sub the QB near in this game is a real head scratcher. There was no reason not to, and every reason to do it, including just getting another guy some real game experience.
His stubbornness though is nothing new. Bentley and Williams being the examples. I caught something tonight in his post game; his comments about how he played QB and coached QB and how he knows what it takes.

With BW I think the issue is twofold;
1. Ego. He certainly doesn't want to admit he is wrong. That is a prevailing theme since he has been our coach. He is rarely if ever admits mistakes, often directly or indirectly blames others.
2. He seems to get emotionally invested in these guys, almost to the point that he seems to regard them as extensions of himself.

I chuckled at Wilder's post game comment about going to talk to coach Scott about what needs to be done, because I am quite sure that a large part of the scheme, and all of the QB selection are under the control of BW and not Scott.

04-cheers

I have heard that BW has no input on plays called which really surprised me but with his statement and what I've heard from a good source I guess true.

Yeah, I heard Scott calls most if not all of the plays.

If this is true, it’s absolutely the dumbest thing I have ever read on this board (and explains a lot). For crying out loud, BW is the HEAD COACH. He calls the shots, so if he doesn’t like the offensive play calling either a) get a new OC or b) take the play calling responsibilities from BS.

But if this is true, it’s just another example of why BW needs to go

This is NOT rock bottom. There is clear dissection and other issue on this team. Rock bottom will be 1-11 or 2-10, exodus of some decent players, and BW gets another year. I am already planing to reduce my # of tickets and donations for next year. I clear message needs to be sent.

I have also heard this. BW loyalty to Scott will be his downfall. How is BW not pissed off enough at this point to snatch the playbook from Scott and relieve him of his OC duties?

Wood needs to tell BW that Scott goes immediately or they both do.

A few of the VT fans at our tailgate are hot on Blackwell to take over for Bud Foster. Put yourself in Blackwells' shoes. If you are offered the DC job at VT or the HC job here- what do you take?

Bud Foster makes a $1mil, I guess his replacement is in the 60-80% range. Will might be able to match the money. Then the question is does Blackwell want to be a HC. I think he does.

RE: This might not be rock bottom
I've read quite a few of the posts concerning the state of ODU Football, coaching (or lack of), and prognostications of the rest of the season unfolding. So, my two cents:

1. I love ODU Football, have supported them from day one in spirit, showing up in fair and foul weather, and financially. They have been and will remain my team.
2. It is hard to watch the debacles continue to occur week after week. Getting throttled by teams of equal or lesser talent - always feeling that we are being outcoached.
3. I have always thought that BW is in over his head at FBS. He was a great FCS coach -- knew the territory and could deliver results (some would argue by luck of great players [e.g. Heinicke] or circumstances) - but nevertheless results. We seem to be beaten by schemes that take advantage of our weaknesses. Things happen that are just not tolerable at FBS level of play (blocked 6 point punt, misplaced kickoffs, pedestrian offensive schemes, 4th down calls that are ill advised).
4. The endless excuses are tiresome -- transition, young players, need a full recruiting round, weather, etc., etc., etc.
5. I saw something last night that was a vote of no confidence -- only the 1% true fans were willing to sit through that fiasco. And while the true fans will always show up -- they are not enough to fill a stadium and make a program thrive. As unfortunate as this is, it will only get worse if the product continues on this trajectory.
6. Attendance was way down from the opening kickoff and as things got out of hand the numbers dwindled .....

I am hoping for better days ahead and my idea of good news and bad news. Good news is that 'This too shall pass' and the bad news is 'as long as the current regime JB, WS, and BW are at the helm that passing may take a long while'. But at some point there will be damage to the program that will not be easy or quick to fix. My two cents.

Right on. We are taking water and are sinking fast and if we do not find a way soon to figure out a way we will end up in a watery grave where few programs that we are familiar with have already found a resting place. If folks can't see beyond their love for BW and his undoing of this program then we are in deeper doodoo than we believe we are at this point. These guys might have gotten wins in FCS and might love ODU but we need to get rid of BW, BS and RW ASAP and find a true FBS coaching staff and figure out a way to pay FBS salaries even if that means taking a pay game every year.

Hypothetically speaking would take ODU HC of VT DC under Fluentes. Fluentes is on the hotseat and if VT fires him in the next year or two, an new 'high priced' coach would most likely hand pick his OC and DC. Leaving Blackwell out in the cold.

Keep Blackwell, elevate Brian Stinespring to HC and let him pick the OC. In order to keep him we will need to pay him. He is the best recruiter in the program and could go a long way to keeping current players as well as recruits

VT will always be able to outbid us, so for him to stay here he would have to be a HC likely making less money than what he would as a coordinator at tech. Unless of course tech gets a new hc and for some reason doesn't want him.

We need to keep in perspective where we are at this point in time. It’s bad but far from rock bottom. After playing for only eleven years, we are playing at the FBS level, have won a bowl game and beat VT, excelled at the fcs level, and have a newly renovated $70M stadium. We also may have the best defense in our history. There are obvious coaching changes that need to occur, but we are far from rock bottom. There are countless schools who would love to have our current problem...jmu is one that comes to mind.

It may not be rock bottom, but it's our worst team ever. This is easily the worst year for CUSA football that I can remember, yet we may not win another game.

In which case I really don't want to see rock bottom as that may mean losing to Norfolk State.

Defense is 27th in the nation and we are still ranked 121/130.

The point is think long-term. It stinks now - but we are well beyond expectations after 11 years. Our future prospects in the next 10-20 years are bright given our market size and fan support. Just need a few coaching changes.

Mostly agree, but frustrating as hell in the here and now.
