Tulsa @ SMU
Tulsa is really taking it to SMU. It’s currently 23-9 with Tulsa dominating SMU. I’m fairly certain that we’d rather have SMU undefeated when we play them, but if things don’t turn around, we’re going to be the only remaining undefeated team in the AAC after tonight.

Tulsa had a (non-onside) kickoff for a touchdown.

Don't count out the Mustangs ... down a TD with 8:24 to go.

SMU is way better than Tulsa. Tulsa's momentum piled on SMU's sorrows after unsportsmanlike conduct against their coach and the boneheaded kickoff touchdown given by their kickoff return guy to Tulsa.

Maybe it's just my bleary eyes, but they both look pretty beatable.
But then there's also that damn receiver for SMU, Proche (sp?) How long has he been there?

Yeah. When I saw this game listed the other day, the thought / fear struck me of "Watch Tulsa go down there and beat them", and not based on any special football insight, just a gut feeling. Well, they didn't beat them, though they should have, but it will still likely knock SMU out of the Top25. And even if it doesn't, it dents their legitimacy.

You had me until the last statement. If you are Top 25 and you WIN ... you don't get demoted. That is simple math. Don't overthink it ... top 25 programs, when they win (doesn't matter how), will remain in the poll next week - either same or possibly even moving up (depending on other top 25 action).
Anyways, just wanted to clear that up because that last statement of yours was garbage.

Eh...Depends....
If you are 25 and struggle with an unranked team you should be fine.
If you are top 3 and struggle with an unranked team you should be demoted if other teams perform well.

Last week Clemson was ranked #1 and barely escaped @ UNC by one point. When the polls came out on Sunday they were #2 behind Bama, who rose from the second spot after handily taking out a weak ole miss team. Just sayin’...

Both Tulsa and SMU are very respectable. And SMU has a certain chemistry and confidence. Two good football teams. The AAC West is VERY competitive.

That's simply not true. We dropped out of the top 25 in 2004 after squeaking out a win against Arkansas State. Iowa State lost a ton of votes after beating Northern Iowa in OT in week 1. Demotions happen all the time within the top 5 if a team (like Clemson against UNC) fails to TCB. It happens a lot.

RE: Tulsa @ SMU
There's the problem with putting too much stock in these opinions which are billed as team ability rankings. SMU moved up to #21 after getting lucky. Sure they "showed heart", "refused to quit", "believed in themselves", "kept fighting", et cetera, et cetera, but Tulsa missed at least 2 and maybe 3 FG's that would have won the game. There's no way that means SMU is 3 spots better than they were last week, or that it gives the voters more evidence and justifies a higher ranking. His foot meeting the ball a fraction of an inch differently would have beaten them.
I mean, I'm glad one of our conference mates is ranked that high, it will give us a chance to knock 'em off and enhance our standing, and should draw out more attendees for our home game against them, but I'm not buying that they are the 21st best team.
