Agreed. Always been my favorite from day one. They removed the Huskie head because they want to brand the NIU. Never understood it. Doesn't it say NIU under the Huskie head?

Yea I don't get it. Brands don't work if they're changed every few years.

If you walk into VCB, the Huskie head still dominates. That is what people want to buy and what people identify NIU as. What are we branding for now anyway, NIU missed the boat in the post-Orange bowl era. If you want to brand NIU athletics how about moving football games to days of the week people can attend, and season tickets sales will go up again.

Northern Illinois isn’t a brand. It sounds small and regional. NIU is a brand and appeals to a much broader audience. UCF, ECU, TCU, etc. are all examples of better branding than going with the full names.

The only issue I have with it is that the need to get the network partners to start exclusively using NIU. It should be NIU on all television graphics and not N. Illinois, Northern Illinois, No. Ill., or whatever else they seem to come up with.

NORIL, NILL.... I mean, seriously, what are they smoking at these TV stations?

This 100%! Why can't we dictate what they use???

My daughter goes to USF, they have many of the same issues besides the weather and weeknight games (although they do have some). Some people still look down because it isn't UF or FSU, attendance is as bad as ours even though they have over 50,000 students, a directional name....but they have their logo on their helmets and field and everyone still calls them USF (when So.Flo., S.Florida, etc is some much easier to say 01-wingedeagle). I have to believe that getting rid of the Huskie Head is not the answer.

As long as we're complaining about things off the field...they need to stop that weak attempt at a Red Black chant. They flash the red and black so fast that there's NO way that people are going to shout those in unison, so it's just ridiculous and embarrassing. If you can't do it the old way (and students kept the chant going for about 5 minutes), don't do it at all.

Agreed. I like that they're doing it early in the game but they need to slow it down so the crowd can catch up. Man, that used to be epic back in the day. It would keep going after the ball was put in play.

You can bet if Ohio State succeeds in trademarking "The Ohio State," the TV people will fall all over each other to use it. Just sayin'.

Any attempt by NIU to be "NIU" will have to start with our own consistency, and that includes the dog's head logo.

Does anyone express this concern to Sean Frazier regarding the football helmets? I’ve messaged him with no response. Just wondering if anyone asked him in person and what his response was.

Every single element of marketing athletics and the school would be easier if we weren't a directional. NIU is the best we can do unless we someday rebrand away from the Illinois directionals. Should probably get our enrollment backer 20k first.... 03-wink

I think Carey had a disciplinarian coach style and currently Hammock is more of a player's coach. Hammock needs a bit of both styles to get this team in order....NOW!01-lauramac2

Dave Doeren was more of a disciplinarian/player's coach hybrid.

I think that's a great point about Doeren, seemed like he struck that balance.
