Not really a need for a wake up call. They are the better team , and did not finish then off, because of the position they put themselves in...next week do you think they will come out fired up or flat?

RE: Where to begin..
For the second straight week I feel like we outperformed the opposition but due to stupid mental and physical errors we came out with a loss. Gotta stop the dumb mistakes...

Oh yeah, that 2011 team also won a Bowl Game. 05-duck

A couple of other parallels, that 2011 team also had a first-year, first-time head coach. Also, that team took a 40-something to single-digit loss to a team from the Big Ten.

They're not making it easy on themselves but anything's possible.

RE: Where to begin..
After not giving up 100 yards to a single runner in what, like 17 or 18 games, NIU has now allowed a 100+ yard rusher in two three straight games.

This is NOT NIU football.

Fix this mess, coaches.

Don't forget that NIU got exactly ONE First Down in the third quarter and it came by virtue of a penalty.

That was indeed a train wreck of a quarter. We had two turnovers and what seemed like 100 yards of penalties.

NIU was out scored 24-3 in the second half despite the only pass completed by Ball State in that second half being the 2-pt conversion.

Who is the Huskie player that fumbled the kick off ball out of bounds and walked off like nothing happened? Jones?

If so, that's a red shirt sr?????? WHat the ....

we have to have better than that. Time to have walk on try outs if that's the best we got.

Put Tucker back there then. He can make a fair catch--- which in that situation would have been nice. HOw different would that game have been if that guy makes a fair catch?????

I hope you're right. Just seems like there are few positives to go on right now. The number of penalties and bonehead mistakes is staggering.

That's actually why not all is lost. The bonehead mistakes are, in theory, correctable. The players need to shoulder some responsibility for the trash we've witnessed on the field but it is mainly on the coaches.

Coaches need to put their big-boy pants on and start coaching like paid professionals. It's their job to get the players to buy-in and lock-in. No excuses.

It's not over until at least the second MAC loss.

Rise and shine. Bedtime's over. Time to wake the f*** up.

AMEN!

It looks like the current team is operating in slow motion compared to that 2011 team.

Agree. If we go 7-0, we earn a trip to Detroit and a Bowl game.
We will have to play almost mistake free football for that.
EMU beat Temple who is 4-1.
Toledo is playing very well.
Both WMU and CMU are most likely better than Ball State University.
If we go 6-1 and beat the above schools we still might earn the trip to Detroit and a post season Bowl game.
Sadly anything less, likely means a 12 game season.

An offense that could score more than 20 points a game.....ah, the memories.

Same here. I love our logo, have since the day it was released. I was just telling someone yesterday that my favorite helmet was the flat black with chrome mask and over-sized chrome Huskie head that I believe they have only worn once.

Agreed. Always been my favorite from day one. They removed the Huskie head because they want to brand the NIU. Never understood it. Doesn't it say NIU under the Huskie head?

Hits the nail on the head. Totally and completely.

Maybe Hammock expected these "veterans" to do their jobs in the locker room and on the practice field. They apparently have not. Someone has to!

Not to call someone out -- but --- our safety play has been atrocious. Look at how many long runs we have given up! Poor decisions, poor pursuit angles. That alone has cost us DEARLY!!!! You're a "SAFETY." You are NOT a "lineman." You are not even a "line-backer." You are a "safety." You are the one guy that CANNOT get beat. You DO NOT need to stop a runner at the line of scrimmage. Not even one or two or three yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Not even 4, or 5 or 6!!!! You DO need to get in the way at least of a running back with a head of steam. At least get in his way and slow him down-- someone will help. A safety that does something more than run alongside and then behind an opposing running back would be most welcome at this point.

There, I said it.

I feel better now.

So ... how were those walk-on tryouts?

I feel this is more a product of a change in defensive COACHING philosophy.

That's my take on it.

This is about all that needs to be said regarding this year's NIU team:

Rushing offense ranked 127th out of 130 team in the nation at 2.76 yards/rush. Huskies do not have an offensive line capable of running the ball. Bowers is an upgrade over Childers but when you can't run the ball, at all, it is just asking for a disaster.

Huskies have to get back to an elite offensive line, that is when this team is good. This staff has a lot of work to do on the recruiting trail, lets see if they can get it done

Yea I don't get it. Brands don't work if they're changed every few years.

What is their rushing average not including sack yardage? That is the real story. Harbison is still averaging 4.9 ypc IIRC. Run blocking could be a bit better but it isn't terrible. Blocking by the WRs could be better I think, especially on plays to the outside. Pass blocking needs to be better too.
