Huskies are 114 in the new Massey ratings, not bottom 10 at least.

Huskies just dont have the horses this year and I think that can lead to a lot of frustration which manifests itself in penalties. Also, when you just do not measure up talent-wise, you just dont have confidence and infractions are more likely to "level the playing field'. Huskies have to hit the recruiting trail hard as talent has been slowly in the decline since the 2014-15 period.

Is this just your thing...to always say the opposite of everyone? You did this the last 2 years about Childers. You blamed Carey for his poor play. Now a new coach comes in and after watching him, benches Childers. There goes your argument. You said Carey ruined the team and no one would want him. Carey goes to Temple and is off to a 4-1 start. There goes your argument. You say there is no talent. Yet Statistically they're better than last year. Doesn't it get tired being wrong?

Outside of LT tell me where the offense has less talent than 2018 MACC?

Give Carey time, he will show his true colors. Carey coasted awhile before it became his program then things fell apart. WMU is lucky they did not fire PJ when he looked like the job was too big for him his first year. Similar to PJ, Hammock has inherited a hot mess that needs to be restocked. This "Fire the coach" nonsense after a few games is just so hard to listen to. Its like the drunk NFL fan always thinking the backup QB is the answer to everything. We just need to use common sense right now, get the talent level back to where it should be, then everything else falls into place.

Who said fire the coach? I haven’t read one post on here saying to fire Hammock. There’s a lot of criticism and rightfully so.

Classic MD. You avoid answering where the talent void is or admit the positions that have improved. Hammock gets a MACC and somehow he inherited a hot mess. Things really fell apart for Carey in year 5 with that championship, huh????

One area with lack of talent is DE. We get no pressure on the QB. We also continually get gashed on run plays to the outside. We also struggle at WR. Tears has about 50% chance of catching the ball and nobody is getting behind the defense.

For those who have been impressed, with what Hammock and his staff have done, could you elaborate on this? Hopefully, I am missing something.Regarding, the talent or lack or talent here, we are talking about defending champs, with most people returning. For Mac purposes, we we are stacked at the D line, and more then adequate with the o- line, at least for the running game. At skill positions, while no one player stands out, we have depth .
Again for Mac purposes, probably nothing has changed much regarding our talent , however, a lot has changed with with our coaching, and their system. If it was not broke, why was their a need for an overhaul..this is our reality..

This is 100% correct IMO. We didn't lose because we didn't have the talent to get it done. We rushed for over 6 yards a carry. We passed for 5.6 yards per pass ATTEMPT. We lost because of 111 yards in penalties, which is like giving their offense a 40% boost, and 3 turnovers. Combine the magnitude of those piss poor stats with the timing of their occurrence and you are pretty much always going to lose.

The season isn't lost yet, but if drastic changes in discipline and mental toughness aren't made it will be soon. Take away stupid plays and we win the last 2 games.

Well argued.

Looks like coach Hammock is overhauling 11 years of NIU FB from Jerry Kill to Rod Carey with a new approach.
Hopefully he can bring in top recruiting classes, develop talent and as a bonus fire up the fan base(the latter Carey was not good at).

Maybe in a similar vein to PJ Fleck in Minnesota.
Several bad years before, we hopefully see an uptick.
Hopefully like PJ Fleck, he intends to stay put and build a national power.
Minnesota is now 5-0, 2-0 B1G ranked 26th in AP and 25th in coaches pole.

Very credible indeed. We lose to BSU(at the bottom of the MAC WEST) , 1-4 and only 110. Ratings must have been compiled before results were in.

We lost because our RBs gave them two TDs by fumbling inside our own 5 yard line. We would’ve survived the penalties and the special teams gaffes. But we couldn’t survive just handing them 14 points...

If we lose to Akron, then maybe we can reclaim the bottom spot again?
How many teams were there in the mid 1990's?

Would be interesting to see how we rank interms of the most penalty yards we give away to the opposing team.

We did outgain BSU and played a great first half.
What happened at halftime?

I want to see the coaches tidy up the mistakes.

If they get a 2 win season with all this talent, then maybe they are trying to implement a new and complicated system that is confusing the players.

Thomas Hammock was under Coach Novak.
I believe that he will get this team back on track this year.
This is embarrassing and on the present coaching staff.

NIU has been a G5 powerhouse for a decade.
The best performing MAC team of the decade.
I do not accept going from first to worst in the worst conference at present!

That’s such a BS cop out. This “team” has so many starters that returned from a MAC championship winning team. There’s no reason to play like this. Love or hate Rod Carey, but he never lost to Ball State. This was one of the most embarrassing loses I could remember given the complete meltdown at home. 3- win team

Thomas Hammock didn't have the luxury of having Jordan Lynch and an Orange Bowl team returning his first season--Hot Rod did. We are playing a different offensive system and have lost a lot in our defensive front 7 between inuries and graduation/Sutton leaving early.

That’s a sorry excuse. We are returning a MAC championship team with plenty of talent retuning. We haven’t been disciplined at all. We lost a game we should have won. Period.

I disagree with the plenty of talent.

MD and I agree here!

I could be in the wrong here, time will tell...but the team I watched had a crushing defense and a decent running game despite only being able to run and defenses stacking the box to stop the run. Logic being we added someone who can actually throw the ball, offense will get better. Take away the mistakes and penalties and I think that is true.

I think the 2016 season is a good parallel. We just aren't getting the breaks this year and making too many mistakes. Hopefully, it'll be more like the 2011 season where we just go on a tear for the rest of the season and finish 8-4 with a MAC championship. We're going to have to find a couple playmakers on offense and start playing mistake free football.

That is what is good about this schedule, NIU is eliminated with a loss @ Ohio and we can put to bed any long shots.

While I agree on everything you stated I believe we saw glimpses of when this new system did well this year, although not enough. I’m giving the staff some slack, but man we should have beaten Ball State. We need some leaders out there, not very many now.
