That’s such a BS cop out. This “team” has so many starters that returned from a MAC championship winning team. There’s no reason to play like this. Love or hate Rod Carey, but he never lost to Ball State. This was one of the most embarrassing loses I could remember given the complete meltdown at home. 3- win team

Thomas Hammock didn't have the luxury of having Jordan Lynch and an Orange Bowl team returning his first season--Hot Rod did. We are playing a different offensive system and have lost a lot in our defensive front 7 between inuries and graduation/Sutton leaving early.

He had a MAC championship team though. He also has a decent QB in Bowers to help with the new offensive transition. How do you explain giving up a 14-3 lead to an inferior opponent (I’m starting to think otherwise)

There is just nothing to lean your hat on right now, no impact players, no difference makers. NiU is not physical at offensive line. I think the talent gap right now explains the other mistakes. It is all a domino. Frustration and discipline seem like they get worse when you are not talented.

The discipline from players and coaches speaks volumes. Hammock isn’t coaching 100 true freshman out there. These are veteran players. Players who somehow forgot to block during punts? And how many dumb time outs will be taken by Hammock. I hope this is all just a learning curve and you can blame it on a first year head coach inexperience.

Can’t wait for the e-mail from Athletics on how the Huskies put up a good fight and lost a close game.

Maybe Childers can look like he did the last half of the MACC vs Buffalo. Worth a shot. Despite his "flips" Bowers not a threat to run and other teams know it. And 111 yards of penalties compared to 35 for Ball State ?! No excuse.

Childers would have had a couple of first downs running where Bowers wouldn't.

Bowers needs to run if he can get a few yards rather than throwing a ball with no arc on it to a guy that isn't open.

Agreed, enough film on him for opponents to know, he will not run...I get it..he is not a running qb...needs to make secondaries honest so they bite...also needs to not take cover sacks ( not today)...with this said, Bowers was not the reason we lost

So nearly double what Plitt ("the league's leading passer") from Ball State threw for in a win.

The defense has heart. Time after time they get screwed over by the offense and special teams.

I agree! No impact players! Every successful season we’ve had 2-3 guys that make a difference! Offense or defense! This year we have a lot of “decent” guys, but no impact players that can be game changers!

The team has heart, it lacks a brain. Hence, my scarecrow comment.

Who’s to blame for the lack of brain? Remember some of these guys are 3 year starters (example: Marcus Jones). These are not freshman out there. Why the vast vast regression in basic fundamentals? That’s what I don’t understand.

The bad: the whole game

The good: field goal kicker wasn’t bad.

If you did not drink before this game, you certainly will after.

Can you imagine what Ohio will do to this team next week? Start drinking now!

Ohio will not blow this team out. NIU has every chance to beat them. Poor fundamentals will do them in again

Boy this board is like a yoyo, up and down, up and down. One minute we are talking about injuries and having to play freshmen. Now we are screaming about the program going to hell in a handbasket. Chill, the program will survive. The only reason we lost was the special teams coach forgot to tell the freshman to call for a fair catch

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coaching.

Bingo. And if a coach by the name of Rod Carey were coaching this team and this happened? They would be at his door with pitchforks in hand. With that said, I liked the Hammock hire and still think he will do well with his guys, but there’s no excuses with the lack of basic fundamentals. He needs to be held accountable. What I liked is that he took all the blame during the press conference. He says all the right things. It just appears the coaching staff and players are not on the same page. And some of these assistant coaches may not be the right fit going forward either. Here’s to better times ahead
