RE: This team has no heart
Ofcourse NIU is still loaded.
Had the team not been so penalized it would have probably won.
Penalties on defense makes it harder to get a 3 and out stop and easier to score.
Penalties on offense kill a drive, put pressure on the QB to throw an interception.
Agree we are not living up to expectations.

Smith single handily won multiple games ly, got them to the MACC.

And funny that the 2 people many would say had the most “heart” are arguably the greatest offensive and defensive players in the history of NIU, Lynch and Smith.

Crazy how that works.

Truth. This season really could be titled “if Sutton didn’t leave early”.

Sutton won us the MAC CCG. Buffalo had the ball, up 29-10, and Sutton was sacking their QB with the loudest celebration you could imagine. He pumped the whole roster up and willed the team to victory.

Not only is one of the greatest players in NIU history missed, one of the greatest leaders too.

Not replacing a leader like that can alter the whole culture.

yep. And not just a kick. A kick that'll land them in the middle of next week. No excuses. This team was good enough to not only win that game, but win it handily. But Ball State wanted it more. I think Mr. Nice guy coaching staff better show these players this week that it's not all nice. Maybe time to take them to the old offices, the old "facilities" and teach them to get their butts in gear or else.

Sad to think some guys left 'cuz they didn't feel they would be part of the future and some of these guys were given the opportunity. I am referring to the incessant penalties. The lack of apparent caring when you screw up. There is NO excuse for lack of concentration or lack of caring. And what "we" built will not be destroyed by a few disinterested guys. Root them out now. Put a foot in the backside of others, and get back to where this program belongs. And do it now. I am ALL FOR protecting the players, but we are going on 6 games. The time for that has come and gone.

The coaching staff needs a swift kick in the rear. They’ve been coddled and given a pass up to this point. I haven’t seen such incompetence in coaching in forever.

The coaching staff has done A LOT of things right. A LOT. The AD hired a first time head coach late. And that is going to bring it's problems.
That is no excuse for 5th year seniors. for not having kick returners; for not having special teams, for not having discipline. Those are the problems. Now, how to fix it and fix it now is the question.

Agree:
It is on the coaching staff.

Charlie Sadler (91-95) went 18-37 (0.327) and left the cupboard bare.

Rod Carey (12-18) was 52-29 (0.642) two MACC, Went to Detroit in 13,14,15,18!

Had Rod Carey still been here this year, this team would be playing with less mistakes, more cohesively and likely performed better and would still be a MAC contender.

Coach Hammock has been coaching in the NFL since 2014.
Many coaches from the NFL find the adjustment back to college very difficult.
(Look at Lovie Smith at Illinois! 11-30).

Rod Carey was able to win successive games after losing 3 games.
Clearly this team can still do the same with the right coaching.

It is not about Sutton Smith not being there.

NIU. Outgained Ball State 388 vs 269 yards! +119 yards
Penalties: NIU: 12-111 vs BSU: 4-35. -76 yards
Turnovers: NIU: 3 vs BSU: 2. -1 turnover.

This was a home game that NIU should have won, against a team at the bottom of the MAC West who last beat us many years ago! BSU is not a contender to win the MAC WEst this year!

This was the 5th game of the season with many opportunities to minimize poor coaching errors especially drive killing penalties!

I understand that we are stuck with Thomas Hammock , who is a loyal NIU alumn.

I understand that he needs time to readjust to NCAAF from the mighty NFL.

I understand that he brings a different energy to the program and might be able to re-energize the fan base which Carey despite winning 64% was unable to do.

When wil Coach Hammock go out there and take the blame for the teams performance?

Poor coaching. Poor senior leadership.

Enough talent and potential to be a MAC west contender, but I don't see this group putting it together.

That was some of the ugliest NIU football i've witnessed in recent time. Absolutely no fight in these dogs. Stupid decision making and no discipline by several players.

I feel like the lack of talent is translating into the stupid mistakes. Huskies just dont have the horses this year and I think that can lead to a lot of frustration which manifests itself in penalties. Also, when you just do not measure up talent-wise, you just dont have confidence and infractions are more likely to "level the playing field'. Huskies have to hit the recruiting trail hard as talent has been slowly in the decline since the 2014-15 period.

MD what games are you watching? Your hate for Carey is blinding you from what’s happening on the field this year. If you believe Ball State has more talent than NIU then I have some swampland to sell you. That loss had nothing to do with not having enough talent. It had a lot to do with discipline and coaching. Take the blinders off for a change. This is still a good team.

Is this just your thing...to always say the opposite of everyone? You did this the last 2 years about Childers. You blamed Carey for his poor play. Now a new coach comes in and after watching him, benches Childers. There goes your argument. You said Carey ruined the team and no one would want him. Carey goes to Temple and is off to a 4-1 start. There goes your argument. You say there is no talent. Yet Statistically they're better than last year. Doesn't it get tired being wrong?

Outside of LT tell me where the offense has less talent than 2018 MACC?

Better QB, RBs are the same, upgrade at WR with Richie, TEs are better.

Give Carey time, he will show his true colors. Carey coasted awhile before it became his program then things fell apart. WMU is lucky they did not fire PJ when he looked like the job was too big for him his first year. Similar to PJ, Hammock has inherited a hot mess that needs to be restocked. This "Fire the coach" nonsense after a few games is just so hard to listen to. Its like the drunk NFL fan always thinking the backup QB is the answer to everything. We just need to use common sense right now, get the talent level back to where it should be, then everything else falls into place.

Every position is equal to or better than last year except O-line. And the O-line played fine yesterday. Harbs is averaging 4.9 yds/carry. Last year he averaged 5.0. Don't say the O-line could run block so much better last year. TE is three times better. Richie is the teams best wr and Tucker has taken a big step. WR is better. Bowers is better than Childers but needs to get his sh=t together.

Classic MD. You avoid answering where the talent void is or admit the positions that have improved. Hammock gets a MACC and somehow he inherited a hot mess. Things really fell apart for Carey in year 5 with that championship, huh????

Chronic eating disorders resulting in extreme obesity is a clear sign that dementia has started in the brain. Diminishing cognitive skills are the first to go resulting in difficulty understanding problems, and the resultant loss of one's ability to make key decisions that can rectify anomalies in other's behavior.

Bears getting absolutely rolled by the raiders. Obviously the Bears defense has a lack of talent. Nothing at all to do with bad penalties, turn over and missed tackles. Just a talent issue.

Bears are just getting DOMINATED and I mean DOMINATED by the Raiders offensive line. I think maybe Nagy will rethink the Friday arrival if they do this again
