4-1. Two P5 wins. Impressive.

Guess this board was off.

RE: Temple
Its not like Temple is coming off consecutive losing seasons, and all the sudden Carey turned them around with his "God-like" coaching ability. Temple has had pretty strong teams the past four years. Carey is stepping into a situation where the cupboard is pretty well stocked, just like when he started at NIU.

He beat a bad Georgia Tech team and barely beat a maybe average Maryland team. Carey looked fantastic at NIU when he had JL his first season.

He walked into a good situation but still has to win the games. So I give him credit. We also won games we were supposed to win under Carey. Also won some games we weren’t supposed to win vs Power 5 teams. We are supposed to be defending MAC champs and certainly are not playing like that.

He entered a good situation with Temple and left a lot of talent void on this roster at NIU

No way I want Rod back with his barely win philosophy. It worked to a point. I supported Carey but he had to go. MD brings up plenty of good points on how the team culture was slipping while Carey was here. My hope is Hammock is the guy that can turn this around. We will find out in 2 - 3 years.

Did you see any of the NIU bowl games the last 5 years? Boise State, Duke, Marshall, etc. were awful games.

HotRodball that wanted to limit the total plays of the game was nauseating to watch but it kept him competitive. That was his MO but it crushed him in bowl games when everything is loosened up.

Hammock's identity is being created as we speak but thankfully he didn't start off by losing to a shity FCS team. Bad days make the good days even better.

It is becoming clear that this week on the ole board is going to be full of trolls with idioitic statements and hyperbole. This is a good week to take a vacation from this board if you want to maintain sanity

Temple will probably end up with 7 or 8 wins. Same as the last two seasons. Rod is pretty average. Yet somehow he is either god awful or really good when this board argues about him. It’s crazy that the Carey haters will still be trying to justify their disdain 5 years from now. Holding in a “I told you so” for that long must cause bloating and discomfort.

Agree with poster. Bowl games are earned with a winning record durring the regular season. The winner and loser of the bowl game gets paid the same.
They are basically what Joe Novak said a Christmas gift for the coach and one month of extra practice.

Yes Carey had the worst Bowling record. However most NIU football coach never went to a Bowl.

I hope that I am wrong , but Coach Hammock is not going Bowling this year, and neither will he have the one month of extra practices, which several other MAC teams will have. Welcome back to a 12 game full season at NIU football.

We have only had one 12 game season in the past roughly 11 years. Our one season where we missed a Bowl game we had 5 wins, we lost several close games and were one win away from a Bowl that year. The last bad season before was 2007 where injuries decimated us.

EPA you have your wish. No Carey and no Bowl game to lose.

At NIU with our injuries every year our best shot against a good team is at the beginning of the year. By the time a Bowl game comes we are banged up and have traditionally been thin on depth. Given our incredible track record in the past decade, we are well known and put against well known schools with much bigger football budgets, better facilities and where coaches make much more than at NIU.
The publicity we get is great, the practice for next season priceless, however we get beaten by several TD's.

Losing big in an earned bowl is not the same as losing big in a regular season.

I love NIU Football.

I remember 2003 where we went 10-2 , played 4 ranked teams and went 2-2, yet never earned a post season game! That might have been the best and most talented NIU FB team of the modern era.

I have valued every bowl game since then.

Every bowl earned with every month of extra play is a privilege.
