Seems the first easy thing to do would be fill in the notches, and that gives you about 5K right there. The onlynother thing I would see would be wrap Shank pavillion further around. If a P5 ever came calling and we were competitive, I could see 50K crowds for big games. Im a longtime Bengal fan, but at some point apathy will fully set in and UC football could be a grest alternative.

When we were attempting to get into the Big 12 they revealed plans to add an additional seating to get us over 50,000.

I don't think they would ever remove Dietrele Hall to connect the East and West Upper Levels...but I"m sure some creative architects could figure out how to expand another 10K if needed.

The one thing I don't want them to do is reduce seat size to squeeze in more butts into the existing rows. We had a fight in our section last night over a couple of big bodies taking up more than their allotted butt space which reduced the number of seats in a row such that a ticket holder had no seat.

That could be done but the cost/revenue might favor adding a Club type pavilion on the East (Reed Shank) side. The West Side Roof Top area could be extended.

With any luck the Bengals will move to San Diego in a few years and the County will beg UC to play a Big12 game a year.

That happens in our section even with less heavily attended games. We have six seats in my row and with one unused ticket, still had barely enough room for five butts.

And they really need to fix the ticket scanner fiasco. Those things are a MASSIVE fail. They lady scanning tix in my line took 10-30 seconds per ticket. just pull the stub and scan later for data collection. If you buy online go to will call and get a real ticket printed instead of backing up everybody else in line.

But before they even consider expanding, they seriously need to reevaluate the parking situation. Parking garage in Burnett Woods needs to be on the table.

Burnet Woods will never be used for a UC parking garage never. UC cut into what was Burnet Woods to add DAAP, Crosley etc with an agreement to go no further which is why you never hear serious mention of encroaching on Burnet Woods even though UC is land locked. Won't happen because it can't happen.

Never say never, enough money talks. Either way, I believe parking should be addressed if they were ever to expand.

You must be very patient and tolerant. The Bengals' apathy, and mine, began to flourish when Sam Wyche left. Then, following one coaching failure after another (Dave Shula, among other non-notables), Mike Brown pulled out all the stops and hired Marvin Lewis, who demonstrated his mediocrity year after painful year, seemingly forever. I keep hoping that Mike Brown will make some outrageous demands for stadium improvements or replacement and offer some more empty promises about team performance, and that the County will respond by telling him to pack peanut butter. Then, with luck, the hapless Bengals and their endemic apathy will slither away to some other town and the Bearcats will become the center of attention that they've earned and deserve. As long as the Browns retain ownership, the Bengals are toast.

Honestly the only reason I still have any good feelings for the Bengals is out of nostalgia, speding time with my Dad, Grandpa, and family watching games. That is pretty much it at this point. Mike Brown has screwed this franchise up royally, and sucks having him behind the helm.

I suppose you can never say never but powerful people have been asking about expanding UC into Burnet or 40+ years. It came up during the different master plan phases for academic building expansion as well as for athletics expansion. Money has been dangled too but the city of Cincinnati and Clifton community will never have it.

Eventually those people get old and die. The people who step into power then forget what the old argument even was if the money is right. Not saying it will happen. Saying never doesn’t make sense.

There's considerable value in having some relatively natural open space next to a crowded campus, particularly in an urban/suburban environment, and there are other ways to address parking issues. People need open spaces like parks. For campus expansion, I'd first look at acquiring property in nearby blighted areas. Burnet Woods isn't exactly heaven on Earth, but the thought of developing it when there are alternative, already-disturbed areas nearby brings to mind Joni Mitchell's "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

These are all pipe dreams, but, as to your question...if the Bengals left, then PBS would need a tenant...there's your palace...no need to expand Nippert.

I'll also point out that it would shrink the tax base, so the $$ for such an expansion if the Bengals abandoned Cincy would be very hard to come by.

Oh...and Cincinnati would NEVER get another NFL franchise because of the small market.
This would make it even more unlikely that the Reds would stay long term because of shrinking revenue.

And if the Bearcats didn't get into the P5, your desires would effectively turn Cincinnati into Dayton.

But you could go see UC Baseball in Great American!

Hooray!!!

In my line of work [former] it's always about compromise to get big things done. I believe there is a win-win in this situation. A new parking garage in Burnet Woods could be designed just on the the edge to reflect low impact design - make it blend in more instead of a fortress of concrete. You see this low impact design all the time in modern buildings/facilities. UC could agree to some long term lease or a maintenace and grounds agreement to help with Burnet Woods. I haven't been to campus in a long time but I don't remember Burnet as being used for anything other than parking. Could there be some natural areas developed with trails, bike paths, outdoor exercise areas, etc? Or, could some kind of natural preservation endowment be set up with UC contributing? We have some great schools in DAAP that could contribute in the planning and design to include a community oversight group for stakeholders and feedback to the process. There seems to be room for UC to be a partner in this and not a "big-bad" institution looking to push its weight around to force itself on the surrounding areas.

The Paul Brown Stadium experience sucks. If the Bearcats ever left Nippert, I would drop my season tickets and watch on TV. And I have had season tickets for years, including the Brian Kelly years, even though I lived in Southern California.

"Shrink the tax base" ??? Are you taking the position that 8 home games per year provide more economic opportunity than tearing it down and redeveloping 22 acres of riverfront space??? LOL !!!!!!!! Surely you are not making the argument that the payroll taxes of the Bengals organization and those businesses that support it, would be greater than 365 days of mixed use commercial/residential/retail employment/payroll taxes????

Are you also saying that having an NFL team somehow makes your city "relevant"??

Cincinnati loves The Reds.. People all over the country love the Reds.

So Cincinnati, minus pro sports, is Dayton?????????

You live in a very, very small world.

Or maybe we fat, obese, lazy, path of least resistance midwesterners could walk a mile or so to get to campus for games, on SIX occasions per year. If we desire to tailgate, we can arrive a bit early, drop off our supplies/material at The Grid, and then the ONE non-obese, non-lazy, non-drunk person in our group could drive our provisions vehicle to a parking place a mile away, park and walk back.

Those of us with real disabilities could be transported by shuttles from remote parking lots.

I love cars more than just about anyone I know, (I currently own two Porsche 911's) but good gosh, do we really need to turn every low value, non-developed piece of strategically located dirt into a parking lot???

Nippert Stadium and the Entire UC Campus is literally a Crown Jewel. Do you people really not understand what you have here????

I hear ya but the problem is density and UC is a commuter campus. Parking and pedestrian flow has always been a problem in that neighborhood area. It's also cultural - folks don't want to give up the independence of their cars. Burnet Woods is about 90 acres I think. A parking garage of several acres on the immediate MLK side is not a deal breaker for open space. To me, a parking garage would link the campus - another open space area - to Burnet Woods.

RE: Would it be possible to ever get Nippert to 50K?
Parking isn't that bad...sure everyone wants to show up in Clifton 20 minutes before game time and park right on campus next to Nippert but there is available parking.

Yesterday we parked in Library (Woodside Garage) easy in and out. Bought an event parking pass for the game.
We parked on East Campus in the Eden Park Garage for the UCLA game because I forgot to buy one until the day before the game. It was easy...took the Shuttle over to west campus. Took 7 minutes. It was ready waiting for passengers when we got out of the garage. After the game, even though the shuttle was waiting to pick up people for east campus, we decided to walk because it was a nice night. It's maybe a half mile.

To park at tOSU some people park 2 miles away and walk the way in...
