If you want to do both you pretty much have to move to a network job which is what Thom Brenneman does. The Bengals grabbed Hoard as they knew from his Uc work he was very good and given they were second to the party were ok with him doing both Uc and their games. I don't think you could be a baseball announcer dedicated to a team given the spring games start in Feb and Fball starts end of August. You would miss to much. I'd personally rather do bball and fball than the long baseball grind. You're on the road all summer, and in the case of the Reds you have to entertain folks for a couple months when they're going nowhere.

When the Reds were looking for a TV announcer five or ten years ago, Hoard put in for it and didn't get it. That was before he got the Bengals job. Hoard used to call minor league baseball in the off season(s) but I would guess he has stopped that now.

Selfishly I'm happy with what Hoard is doing now.
