I can't find an article that notes Paul Reed either has hired or has not hired an agent. Seems he has not, so he could be back, which would be huge. Still, I assume Reed is gone and the team builds around a nice core of experienced returning players and a fine point guard. The goal is 17 wins minimum and an NIT bid. And, of course, to NOT finish last in the BE.

With Reed's frame I expect he's the type of player a team will take a swing on in the second round as a modern center (something like Daniel Theis on the Celtics). If he can get an agreement in place with a team, even if it's just a promised two-way contract, it's hard to argue against putting the money in your pocket. If he comes back then great for DePaul, but I wouldn't count on it. The good news is that even if Reed is indeed gone, they should be able to slide Weems down a spot and move Darious Hall into the starting lineup pretty cleanly.

Yep, would be nice to see all 11 BE programs as "Top 75-ish" this coming season. Few (if any) leagues accomplish that very often.

Just read the Teddy Greenstein column (Chicago Tribune) of a few weeks ago regarding how DePaul should have fired Leitao. Scathing. He noted too many Blue Demon players this past season had personal agendas. That troubles me for the upcoming season. Maybe DL can get it together and DePaul can win 17 to 19 games and land an NIT bid. I want to be optimistic but it's a challenge at times.

The problem with letting Leitao go is he's finally got the closest thing to some momentum going DePauls had in forever. Super low bar, I know, but they've had back to back .500-or-better years and have two top-100 kids committed in 2021. Given how long it's taken just to get to that place, I get why it'd be tough to hit reset yet again.

Reed is likely gone and I wish him well. He had a strong season and has earned an opportunity to play professionally somewhere (not sure he is "NBA good" but would be nice to see him in the association, as that would look good for DePaul).

Hall and Nick Ongenda are both going to have to elevate their games on the interior. After Jaylen Butz at 6-9 (and assuming the 6-9 Reed is gone) ... not a lot of height or bulk on next year's roster.

Agree on the momentum with DL and the program. Hitting reset, as you note, would have been tough (though not cleaning house was a difficult move to make, too). That is why I favored (though modestly) bringing back Leitao. There is some level of continuity and hope for the future.

Really don't understand stand why he's even on the hot seat if this is the most competitive DePaul has been in decades. At least the team is competitive. As others have noted, unless there's some obvious home run hire, seems foolish to force him out imo.

Part of DL's "hot seat situation" stems from this:

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/co...story.html

And another key element was the collapse in the second half of this past season — even though (as you correctly note) DePaul was more competitive in losing than it had been while losing in the past (if that makes sense).

I developed an interest in DePaul hoops in the 1970s (when the legendary Ray Meyer was the coach) and have been a fan since the 1987-88 season. Like lots of older Blue Demon fans, I wish the program could get even half that mojo back from the Ray M. era. It's an annual struggle.
