RE: NIU at Georgia Tech in 2021 just announced
From the article and what Chaney said, it doesn't sound like we will be seeing another new P5 team in Huskie stadium in a long time as he mentioned the turnout was not like they expected.

This is good, because, as Cheney inferred, NIU does not make money by getting P5 teams to come to Huskie Stadium. The goal should be to always play at the big boys - and no home-and-home series. Play there, collect the check, and move on to the next big OOC game. If they absolutely must play an OOC home game, make it against whatever team will cost the least - whether is Presbyterian College or Augustana College. NIU cannot afford to pay anyone as long as the fans stay away from Huskie Stadium. Money rules, so NIU may as well be in it for as much as they can make.

Instead of the usual FCS team on the schedule I'd rather see one and one's with a Sun Belt or Mountain West team. At least we're playing FBS teams. The only FCS teams we should play would be EIU, WIU, SIU, or ISU. Much more fan interest.
You're right, playing the money games against the P5's, with the chance for an upset, are what NIU needs.

RE: NIU at Georgia Tech in 2021 just announced
Add my 100%. STF already has said his plan is one in-state FCS per year plus another FBS at home for 2 of the four o-o-c games. Sun Belt and MWC would fill that second "slot" nicely. (I believe the Rhode Island/2020 and Maine/2021 games were sked before STF espoused that change.)
NIU future skeds show EIU (2022), SIU (2023) and ISU (2026). To date, there are open "slots" for '24, '25 and '27, even with the GT and Nebraska changes.

NIU has always done prettly well financially at Soldier Field. I know that many in our community do not like that option but I have traveled from Ohio for each of those games and spent an enjoyable weekend in the city. My wife and I combine it with other fun activities so we have a great weekend regardless of who wins the game.

A UofI vs. NIU game would fill the place up, but the illness would never agree to it.

Hopefully this will be another Bone victory!
The roster is gutted, upside down, built for the triple option but running a pro spread. This year was all lined up to be a train wreck and it is. But if you look at GT's recruiting ... the roster you're going to face is going to be, by every quantifiable way, at least one standard deviation better. GT has no QBs who have shown they can pass. They have, after 2 season ending surgeries last week, 5 scholarship seniors available on the entire roster. The offensive line is STARTING walk ons due to depletion and injury. However ... Collins has already recruited one ENTIRE offensive and defensive line in his first full class. He recruited more 4* players via transfer in his first few weeks on the job than Paul Johnson managed to recruit in his entire decade+ tenure at GT. In that brief cycle last season he had a 5* transfer at DE from Florida immediately .... that's pretty much month one a better player than PJ ever got and the best since Calvin Johnson at GT. While Collins is the HC, the man behind the man in Atlanta is George O'Leary. Collins himself started at GT under O'Leary ... came back to GT where as recruiting coordinator he had the best class GT ever signed and then Saban gave him blood money to recruit for Bama instead after one year.
GT will be young-ish in 2021 .... but they won't be talent depleted mess they are now. They should be in fact quite dangerous by then.
Why did you have to ruin our fun like that? I was looking forward to NIU beating down an ACC school...
