RE: UConn future scheduling, or lack thereof.
Yes Villanova does have open dates
UNLV @ Conn on zero wk, UNLV @ Haw in '20, not like UNLV bowling
SMU-TCU have not decided on next yr, TCU has 2 openings
NMST has game left end of yr
Liberty might bump West CAR back to avoid 2 1AA

RE: UConn future scheduling, or lack thereof.
Update: Based on what I found at fbschedules.com, below are the FBS teams that currently do not have their 2020 non-conference FB slate filled.

School (Home-Away)

Air Force (5-6) [already scheduled Army and Navy; no FCS scheduled]
Old Dominion (6-5) [no FCS scheduled]
SMU (5-6) [scheduled FCS SFA; haven't yet scheduled TCU (would be at SMU); good luck scheduling an AAC school]
Southern Miss (5-6) [no FCS scheduled]
TCU (5-5) [haven't yet scheduled SMU (would be at SMU), but would still be short an OOC game; no FCS scheduled]
Texas Tech (6-5) [no FCS scheduled]
UAB (5-6) [no FCS scheduled]
Virginia Tech (6-5) [no FCS scheduled]

And the following schools still have a 13th game they could schedule, since they're playing at Hawaii in 2020.

Boise State (7-5) [no FCS scheduled]
Nevada (6-6) [scheduled FCS UC Davis]
New Mexico State (5-7) [already scheduled UNM, UTEP, and FCS Texas Southern]
UCLA (6-6) [no FCS scheduled, as they've never played FCS, but since USC will be...]
UNLV (7-5) [no FCS scheduled]

There is no question IMHO that Liberty would be more than willing to make room for UConn — but would probably have to be @Liberty in 2020.

UConn will be playing a lot of road games if they can get any G5 or P5 games at all. I expect to see 4-6 FCS games on the schedule next year as most schools have their schedules complete already. There is no reason to disrupt there programs for a problem UConn brought on itself.
Also I would not expect schools or conferences to disrupt the conference schedules for them either. Most of the OOC schedules are played up front where UConn is already booked in September. 07-coffee3

RE: UConn future scheduling, or lack thereof.
I’m curious how the NCAA would feel if UConn made very little attempt to be compliant in 2020.

Let’s say they get a maybe 2 more FBS schools to visit them, plus a couple money games, and then a slew of road games at FCS schools in 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deals in order to bank FCS opponents in the future that they won’t have to pay for since payment has already been rendered in the form of an away game in 2020.

Do they get a stern letter from the NCAA or are there real consequences?

They would be fine but Central Connecticut State or Qunnipiac better not step out of line.

They might as well just drop to FCS if that's their plan.

They could probably get an away game at Yale. That might be good crowd with UConn vs. Yale the whole state might be there.

When was last time Yale played an FBS opponent?

2014. Yale beat Army 49-43 in OT, at Yale.

Yale would probably have to pinch their noses to play UConn, even if it was at the Yale Bowl. 2014 vs Army was a rarity; the Ivies don’t really schedule FBS any more.

Personally I thought it would have been fitting for Rutgers and Princeton to play in week 0 in throwbacks to commemorate the 150th.

They’d only be non-compliant for a year, not permanently.

Well, that's one fewer option, although I doubt UConn had much chance anyway with scheduling AAC schools for 2020. Updated the list above.

NMSU in week 13 is a no brainer—it’s just a question of location.

NMSU only has 5 home games and would like to host.

UConn desperately needs 2 more FBS schools to play them at home in order to be compliant.

If Liberty is willing to rearrange the WCU game there’s another likely opponent for the Huskies.

If they are playing at FCS schools so they don't have to pay the guarantee then they might as well go back to FCS.

ODU already has 6 home games and an opening but if I'm our admin I'm only going to throw them a lifeline for some BB contracts or if they want to open up their wallets but I get the sense that they wouldn't.

RE: UConn future scheduling, or lack thereof.
We don't know what contracts UConn is working on. I expect a chunk of the schedule will be released in about 2 or 3 weeks.

ODU for example would be a good two game series, one in Connecticut one in Virginia. That their 12th game is not announced is possibly a sign they have a deal with UConn already.

We'll just have to wait to see what it looks like. But I think we can assume a revenue game late season against an SEC or ACC school, and probably a real hodgepodge of 4 G5 schools, possibly a 2nd FCS school. It wont be a great schedule, and 2021 will only be marginally better. But when we get a year down the road we'll see 2022, 2023 and 2024 starting to look like decent schedules.

I am expecting an ugly 2020 schedule.

I don’t think you’re getting the point. Doing a 2 for 1 with the 1 being in a year you already know you aren’t going to be compliant saves them probably 1-1.2 million in the future.

That’s a pretty nice deal.

There aren't any SEC schools with vacancies for 2020, so UConn would have to break up an already scheduled game. And VT is the only remaining ACC school with an apparent vacancy for 2020.
