Not that long ago relative to what? We're talking 3 decades ago.!Hell, that was prior to the development of http & html (i.e., the modern internet). People were still using cassette tapes. It was a substantial amount of time relative to the College Football world.
Not that long ago, relative to how old USM and NCAA football is.
30 years is 30 years...college football has completely changed. That was an eternity ago. BCS was an eternity ago.
Yes, college football has completely changed. That's pretty much what I said. I think you're missing my point which is this: if you would've told USM fans back in 1999 where they would be in 20 years (and who they'd be sharing a conference with), they would've laughed in your face. As I explained, we know why that is and why this has happened.

Southern Miss joined D1 football 56 years ago (1963). So 30 years is a relatively long ways back in relation to Southern Miss football.

Yeah but Southern Miss started football in 1912.

You mean "Mississippi Normal College started football in 1912".
Followed by "Mississippi State Teachers College"
Followed by "Mississippi Southern College"
And then finally in 1962, "The University of Southern Mississippi"

RE: La Tech future OOC football games
I get why USM has 5 home games this season. 2 big money games and we fit the MSU game into the schedule, which is also a short road trip for our fans.
That 2020 season for LaTech just looks like very poor planning by the Ath Dept. Did a big school back out and cause some retooling of the schedule?

Well, yeah lol but the fact of the matter is we've fielded a football program for over 100 years.

Good get-- hope I'm still alive to watch the game. 2028 sounds like some futuristic si-fi film.

I remembered that was the year y’all beat Bama and Auburn. But I didn’t know you only had 3 in the ’burg. Wow!
And people wonder why USM fans are some of the most "unrealistic" fans in college football. It's because, not too long ago, we were beating the Alabamas, Auburns, Georgias, LSU's, FSU's of the world. Because of our incompetent and complacent athletic leadership (starting in the late 90s and coupled with the fact of the creation of the BCS and the SEC's growth)...we slowly withered away into being a middle of the road team in one of the worst conferences in the nation. It's really sad when you look back at what could've been for USM.
Sounds familiar...
