RE: View from the other side: Bowl of Rice
From what I read, the general notion is that we have played a soft schedule, and our offense is bad, so this is the game that Rice breaks out and gets into the W column. According to their fans, of course.

The Roost site has some great video and then step by step analysis of 3 key plays ( 1 for rice and 2 for UAB ). Matt will enjoy viewing and reading those I suspect. It is in the posting about their LA Tech review and UAB Preview. Interesting stuff.

Hard to disagree. I hope they are wrong--and we are favored to win--but at this point, that's not an unfair assessment.

Oh yeah, I also don't think it's unfair. I would label our offense as inconsistent though, not bad. But I don't think we will lose. We are at home, and I bet Bill Clark has been coaching them boys up real good this week.

I find our offense very basic. We run 3-4 different run plays and it seems this year we are not running nearly as many mid directions as last year or the year prior.
We run that same off tackle and inside zone that has not been very effective.
We need more tosses to the outside with a faster back to stretch the defense.
I don’t know if anyone else has notice but brown is running very hesitantly. It seems like if he could sprints to the line and get some speed going through the small gaps he could break some of these tackles that have been taking him down.

A season and four games into Bryant Vincent's return to UAB football, have to say I'm not all that impressed. Erdely didn't perform as well under Vincent and Brown's production has declined each season.

That’s what we get for hiring based on relationships instead of results. Bad hires at OC and OL. There’s been some poor evaluations on who to take as an OL. This is why only a handful can really go at this level, even before the injuries. When you lose 4 starters from previous season in which you only had 2-3 decent backups who will return and don’t replace them effectively going into the following season, you know you’re in trouble. Hopefully some guys get healthy and play the game of their lives on Saturday.
If I remember correctly, Clark said we lost 4 in fall camp. Started season with 11. Now we’re down Galten and Dufour, too?

Honestly, we have a bad offense due to the inconsistencies.
-24 against Alabama State. Kennesaw and Tuskegee put up 31 and 42 on them.
-31 against Akron. Other teams have put up 42, 45, 35, and 37
-13 against WKU
Our only good performance was against South Alabama and none of the 4 teams we have played have had good defenses. WKU was the only decent one.
66.67% on red zone conversion. 16.67% on 4th down conversions. 35.85% on 3rd down conversions. Not great stats against bad defenses.

If you cant run the ball, you wont be consistent. I never imagined this many runs of one yard or less in 4 games against our least talented competition. Hard to pick up fourth and one, when you cant open a hole against even Alabama St. with all your #1s. Weak Oline is hard to hide.
Now we will start seeing pressure up the middle since our center is out, and Tyler really struggled with pressure last week.
We have not recruited well in the interior Oline for the past two years, and are patching it all together this year with mostly jucos. Not sure what the solution for next year will be when we have all of the offense except Dufour and Parham back. And most of our defense.
Solve the Oline recruiting, development and injury issues and next year UAB is on the verge of a New Years day team, maybe undefeated. If not, we win lose 3 to 4 games.

I dont think he ( or anybody else ) can sprint through a non-existent 'hole' . He is dipping outside because there isn't anywhere else to run.

We are going to have to play lights out tomorrow or the home win streak will end.
I'm worried. I hope I'm wrong.

I dont have an issue with Spencer getting the bulk of the carries. They run the same plays and they no longer work. What I don’t like is the refusal to play any of the other running backs to see if they can get a rhythm and spark the offense.
They’ve all spent their redshirts. You’re wasting their eligibility.

Dont forget that the new NCAA rules permit redshirts to play in a few games early in the season without loosing their redshirt year. I think it is the first 4 games of the season , so some of the newcomers who have been on the field may still be eligible to sit out the rest of the year without penalty.

I think if we can not throw it straight to the other team a bunch, we'll be okay.

We’ve had holes on 4th and 1 that Spencer hasn’t hit too. There are at least two occasions I can think of where he bounced outside when all he had to do was lower his head and hit the hole.
