It was 1990 something when I watched Columbus East tear my team up in a regional semi at UT. Does East High still exist?

Kent State is getting Mr. Basketball.

VonCameron Davis of Columbus Walnut Ridge is the 2020 Ohio Mr. Basketball

This is great news for the basketball program. Hopefully, will discourage others for opting for the transfer portal.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
“Kent State junior forward Anyeuri Castillo has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Castillo joined the Flashes as a junior college transfer last season. The 6-7 Dominican Republican was unable to consistently break into the KSU rotation, and finished 2019-20 with 22 points and eight rebounds in 14 games.

“I wish him the best of luck with everything. He’s a good kid,” said Senderoff. “We’re going to help him the best we can.”

Akron offered Gholston... I was sad to see him go. That would make me really sad.

Actually, I hate to see that. He was a joy to watch and gave a lot of cred to the MAC.

I really didn't see that coming, anti-zip, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised give the current state of D I basketball. I probably enjoyed this past season less than any other, and I've been following Kent State basketball since 1963 and witnessed teams that weren't much better than what is now D III.

heard some rumblings of this around middle of MAC season. i'd suspect him and DP might have trouble coexisting. And Roberts while very talented i'd suspect he thinks he was underutilized.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
So now the question becomes what do we do at PG next year. It appeared like Roberts was in line for the starting job. Gio should get a lot of time. When he was recruited they said the goal with Hernandez was to make him a PG. Hopefully he spent his redshirt year working on that. I see Nuga as a wing not a PG (remember he didn't even play PG in JC because he played with our old friend Ahmed Ali who was the PG). Statistically Jordan does appear to have PG skills. Nalls may be in the picture too.

I assume we'll see at least one more option added over the next few months too. An interesting option would be Eric Hester. The former Florida freshman, turned Akron super transfer, turned Akron transfer before ever playing a game, turned DeAndre Gholston JC teammate this year. It's not often that rivals go after one another's cast aways... But Groce offered Gholston. Statistically it does look like Gholston had the better year of the two. They played on a very good JUCO team though. They have a teammate, Tariq Silver, who left EMU last year and has MAC offers for this year.

This is a bummer. I had great hope that AR would be a big star for us. In fact, I would consider him the most valuable returnee. I have been projecting our team for next year and I admit that this alters everything. Good luck Rob.

The old saying, "You can't tell the players without a scorecard!" is becoming truer than ever. Rather than developing a program and adding a few key parts every year to replace departing seniors, coaches now have to jury-rig a team almost every year, with each season being essentially ad hoc. And of course there being little continuity adversely affects the quality of play, and will result in even more people staying away from mid-major games. Other than for the handsome salary, I really have no idea why anyone would want to be a D I coach

Ditto ... The other thing is ... there are only so many power conference spots where a player like AR can slide in. Also, even if there is not a player in front of him there is most assuredly a player behind him just as talented if not more.

Good luck to him, but equally if not more important, good luck to Senderoff/KSU.

I really can not visualize AR going to a situation better than what he would have at Kent. There is no doubt that Sendy liked him and would count on him to be the man next year and the next. He is a nice player but for him to play at a power 5 program, my guess is that it would be in the lower half of that conference. Going to a Michigan type, most likely gives him spot duty at best. IMO, Anthony, big mistake.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
"By Sunday evening, Justin Turner told 247Sports he had heard from UConn, Arkansas, Xavier, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, Missouri, Alabama, Marquette, Louisville, Arizona State, Oregon, Kansas and Texas Tech." I doubt anywhere near the same will be written about AR.

If the "one free transfer" rule goes into effect as expected, practically any time a mid-major player really excels, he'll be long gone. I can picture fans hoping that a player has a good year, but not TOO good. The mid-majors will scrambling for wash-outs from the "major-majors". Sure, there will ne lots of players who want to stay put, for one reason or another, but there will also be lots of players moving up or down.

The difference between being a mid major coach and a power 5 assistant is an interesting choice. have you own program at 300-500k per year or be a power 5 assistant making i'd guess just as much without the stress of the head job. Western Michigan alum and current UM assistant Saddie Washington just told his alma mater he'd rather stay an assistant at UM than try for WMU gig.
