True ... but by the second week in January 10 of 12 3-men in the MAC are guards, and those 3/4 players become almost exclusively 4s.

Funny how Roberts seems already a distant memory. I haven't seen that anyone has offered him yet.

Is there a connection to Detroit thru Nate Oates? Maybe Buffalo recruited him?

I have nothing against Roberts, and I don't disagree with a basketball player or any other student transferring schools if they want to, even though I don't like it from a fan standpoint. But guards with Roberts' ability are commonplace at 20-win, Power 5 type programs. Here he had the chance to be something special, at an Arizona State or someplace like that he'll have to scrape and claw like Hell just to match his playing time here.

Guys like Roberts come on the transfer market every day now, not to mention the list of comparable players in the juco ranks. He will land somewhere, but quite likely not where he originally hoped.

The disaster stories are all out there to see. Look at the Kirk kid from OU. He averaged about the same as Roberts, decided to transfer to Colorado State. One year later that teams is loaded with freshmen and sophomore guards who are now ahead of him. He leaves again and lands at Illinois-Chicago.

He and his advisors - if there were any - will have a sober wake-up. Roberts future probably won't be that bad ... but it likely won't be much better, either.

Unless he winds up somewhere in Michigan, where he has a chance to get an immediate waiver, Roberts will have a sit-out year to go through. Then hope the grass is still green.

Sorry to say but wishful thinking on his part. Good player but nothing special. Yeah... probably got some bad advice. Unfortunate. Where was he when Kent was on a losing binge.

Actually ... the better route would have been to declare for the NBA draft, but not hire an agent. He would have gotten NBA advice on his game, where he needed to improve and likely projection (NBA) going forward. That would have given him (and Kent) a junior year to really establish himself, either as a NBA player or more likely as a grad transfer to a P5 program.

Also would have had a year to dry up any growing rumors of Roberts being prone to minor injuries that led to him missing games.

Again, likely bad advice from folks who really have no real clue about the system and how to use it ... and not be used by it.

Yes, he could, if all parties agree on a return and there is a scholarship still available.

I would guess (as best he could) Roberts left on decent terms. But you never really know what the lockerroom was like. Also, the ? now is, with so many seniors gone from last year, how the returning players feel.

Turner at BG has made it known that a return to the Falcons is possible, although he also lists three P5 schools as his transfer targets.

In this day and age, nothing would surprise me/you one way or another. Simply put, ... if it's possible, it could happen ... but I have no clue what %%% i would put on it.

Hurley at Arizona State is interested in Roberts. Utomi Transfered from Akron to Arizona State. There simply is no comparison of Roberts to Utomi. Utomi made the right decision. I don't see that happening with Roberts.....maybe a bench warmer at the most.

So was Utomi ... less than 10 ppg.

Utomi never even played a minute for Arizona St! Because he transfered to USC not ASU. He definitely wasn't a bench warmer at USC though. Nearly 25 mpg and started over half their games.

I hated to see Roberts leave, but he had terrible body language and never really took control of a game. I think that he wanted more emphasis in the game but not sure he did his part to get it. He certainly seemed to have the size and athleticism to be a very good MAC player. IMO, he made a mistake but I am prejudiced.

Anthony Roberts is going to play almost wherever he goes. He is really good. Obviously, how much he plays depends on where he goes and how deep a team is. That is where picking the right situation is important. At ASU, I would expect he would play a lot. Again, he is a really good player.

I stand corrected. I meant USC.

I completely disagree that Roberts is a “really good” player. Maybe he would have been but I certainly don’t think he was there yet. Unless we are changing the definition of really good.

Put it this way - there was 0 percent chance you were getting both he and Pippen back. I just get the feeling those two didn’t mesh. It was no surprise Pippen’s announcement to stay came almost immediately after Roberts’ decision to leave.
