I can see that, ksu315. Clearly, being a mid-major head coach has to be tougher than ever.

I too think AR is making a huge mistake. He's a good player but not that good to jump to another level. He's not a game changer. What are some of these guys thinking. Even Turnerr jumping may be questionable IMO.Nothing special when we played him.

Its hard to tell that to someone 18-20 years old. The proverbial cats out of the bag.

What's interesting about all this is Turner/Roberts are leaving situations where they most certainly would have had the ball in their hands on teams that are proven winners.

I also think, as a small side issue, some of the more successful MAC coaches could help themselves with these kids by playing a few more higher-level schools, even if they are on the road. The David-Goliath mentality could be more tangible with more games.

I wonder if Huger/Sendy could help these guys make a decision by asking, "who would you like to play next year." We're only talking 1-2 games. ... Might not work with all kids, but perhaps a few.

The difference with Roberts and Turner is unless there's a waiver, Roberts has to sit out a year. So he has to predict what the team he's going to will look like in two years when figuring out what his role will be. Remember how that worked for Kain Harris?

So as it stands right now we should have anywhere from 1 to 3 scholarships available depending on if King or Nalls are put on scholarship.

Nalls joined the team as a "preferred walk-on", so I assume he's now on scholarship.

Odd that Roberts still isn't listed in the 247sports portal, and it was updated early this morning. I note that Ball State has two listed.

One of BJ Duling's HS teammates JT Shumate is transferring from Walsh to Toledo. He was a very good D2 player. It will be interesting to see how that translates to the D1 level.

2 years ago Vauldrin from Walsh U left to go to Winthrop. He sat a year and was a vital cog in Winthrop making the tourney this year.

The margin between D2 and D1 is razor thin. They're are even some D3 guys that are worthy of D1. I can tell you Colin Gurley from Mount Union could play at Kent now and be one of our best shooters.

Rob may need to get more creative than just going the JUCO route.

Hey Muskrat

Verbalcommits.com is the go to site for anything D1 men’s basketball and they have that Anthony Roberts is transferring away from KSU as of 03/23/20. Definitely a head scratcher for me, with the 5 seniors graduating this would be Roberts and Pippen led team at least that is what you would have thought not being inside the program.

KSU just offered JUCO PG Keishawn Brewton (Chipola JC).

Brewton was at Chipola a year ago. This past season he was at Coastal Carolina but transferred. Here's a link to his stats. Don't let the 38% shooting fool you. 2 out of 3 shots is a three and he shot a very nice 37% from three.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...ton-1.html

Assuming there's no waiver he would sit out next year, which in my eyes is actually a good sign that we're going after someone like that. To methat says we believe we have enough talent right now that we can afford a guy sitting out. Rob's been going this route a lot lately going after successful Jr's that transferred and giving them 2 years on scholarship for 1 year playing. It's an interesting way to grab low-floor talent at our level. Can't argue with the results so far. Pollard (pre-injury) and Simons were great. We'll see how Nuga does next year but he figures to be a big part of the team.

Pollard makes me cringe ... only from the fact that had he played all season Kent likely would have been a MAC Tournament favorite. I believe KSU was undefeated in MAC play when he was lost for the season.

Agreed. I really liked his game. He was fun to watch for the brief period we got to see him.

Thanks, GoFlashes8, I look at that verbalcommits site a lot, too. I believe Roberts is leaving, as the Record-Courier also reported it. But I just thought that 247 sports might say who is interested in Roberts.

I REALLY like Pollard. I agree they may have won the MAC had he not been injured.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
Something I was thinking about today... Over the last several years there have been either 5 or 6 perimeter players that stick I'm the rotation all year. As we all know with Roberts leaving our top 5 perimeter players are all gone leaving Santiago as the only one returning. So from the fan point of view next year's perimeter group has a ton of question marks. What's interesting though is the coaches got to see Nuga and Hernandez in practice all year. So they actually should have a pretty good idea of what they can expect next year from at least three perimeter players. That's a somewhat unique luxury in a year with so much turnover.

I'm curious has anyone heard anything about how those two have looked in practice?

Jon Rothstein of CBS sports posted this on his Twitter feed today:

Interesting Stat:

A year ago, 14 mid-major players who averaged in double-figures during the 18-19 season opted to grad transfer to power conferences.

None averaged in double-figures last season.

The comments are worth reading, too.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
This is an interesting article: https://athleticdirectoru.com/articles/i...-movement/

From that article: "Or, in simple terms, there is almost no correlation between the amount of players lost or gained via transfer and team strength whatsoever." And "At the time of this publication, 4,360 men’s basketball student-athletes have transferred to or from a D-I basketball program over the past six seasons, according to Verbal Commits. College basketball’s transfer rate is the second-highest in the NCAA among male sports, where approximately 33% of players transfer at some point in their collegiate career." I wonder what is 1st? Football?

I'm already "over" Roberts leaving. Years ago, a player like him leaving would have upset me for several days. People tend to adjust to new realties. I'm afraid that new reality includes the fact that Kent State having the success it had in 1999 and for a few years thereafter, especially the 2002 team, is likely something we won't see again.

I'm with you and although I missed following the men and women in the MAC tournament - the loss of March Madness wasn't the end of the world by any means. I was disappointed by the cancellation of May 4th events as I know a lot of effort went into the planning of events and I wanted to stroll campus and follow my foot steps from that day.

I don't see how this is critical to the success of Kent State when compared to every other MAC school. Our competition -our real competition at the bottom of the ladder- are going through the same thing. We will win a MAC Tournament again. Maybe even an NCAA Tournament game.
We'll never have a 2002 run. I came to that conclusion in 2006. There was a good bit of fortune that went our way that year.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
A very interesting transfer happened today. Reggie Jones transfered to Ball St from Tulsa. Jones spent his first two years at Western Michigan. Averaged over 10 ppg as a soph. He then transfered to Tulsa (a step up from the MAC). Sat out his transfer season then failed to play much of a role this year. So he's coming back to the MAC as a grad transfer.
