We were really comparing Kent State vs SBU. Can you project SBU winning the MAC in the past 4 years. I do not.

Agree ... short of a hot conference tournament run (which any good team can have) the Bonnies are = to Kent State at best. So in summation, he went to a better conference, but only a comparable team at best. And considering that team returns a bulk of freshmen/sophomore guards is he really in a better position than he would have been at Kent - especially if the immediate eligibility rule comes to fruition?

Recently saw ARoberts had an offer from Northwestern in the B10, along with Arizona State in P12 which also begs the ??? why the Bonnies.

What hasn't been questioned is if there were issues inside the team that led AR to transfer. Haven't heard anything, but who knows. Again, if one or two of the jucos prove to be solid, his 13 ppg won't necessarily be missed.

I’m not sure a Kent/SBU comparison is what’s critical. When a player transfers for basketball reasons he’s looking at trying to improve his pro prospects. If he cared about the specific team he probably wouldn’t transfer in the first place. Playing in the A10 will get you more publicity. The league is better and is much more a city league. The DeKalb, Mt. Pleasant, Athens, etc. press don’t have a national audience. Do I think this particular player will take advantage of this. Probably not but if he wants to try why not?

That's a little bit of a loaded question because Buffalo wasn't a typical MAC team for a couple years in that span. However, SBU was 26-8 two years ago which ranked them 68th on kenpom. The top MAC team that year was UB who was 27-9 and ranked 67th. So thinking they could've won the MAC within the last 3 years (let alone 4) seems very realistic. That same year we were 17-17 ranked 211th. And that summer Roberts picked us over SBU.

I love Kent as much as anyone here, but come on, let's be realistic.

Jee-zus ... I gotta find something else to do ....

However, while I trust Kenpoms numbers as much as any, I also know what I see. That 17-17 Kent team and roster was as much a reflection of the times (unevern with new faces in new places) as much as talent. When that team was good, they were well better than 211.

That team beat (a bad) Oregon State team out of the PAC 12 during the regular season and beat league champ Buffalo as well (also lost to them twice).

And if not for transfer (ADR) and injury (DP) - on paper - would have been a definite threat to UB the following season. Such is life.

You are what your numbers say you are ... and that was definitely a .500 team. But...

I don't disagree with any of that. My point is simply that that SBU team would've been good enough to possibly win the MAC that year.

PS. They played eventual MAC champ Buffalo at Buffalo that year and won by 11.

All I know is that unless Roberts was really unhappy here for whatever reason, it doesn't seem like a good move. If he wanted out because he was unhappy, then maybe he will be happy at his new school. If he wanted out because he thought he could play at a higher level, it really wasn't much of a jump.

Looks like we added a walk-on today. 6'1" HS PG Michael DiGuilio from NY. Here's his highlight film. Looks like a righty that can drive and finish with either hand. Doesn't appear to be overly athletic but looks shifty with the ball. Solid highlights and real nice looking stats for a walk-on. I won't act like I know anything about different HS basketball leagues in NY though.

I haven't seen anything to indicate Jon King is leaving so I'd guess we'll have these two as out walk-ons this year.

That's awesome. I've been hoping we'd get him for awhile.
Everything I've read about him is really positive but he's only 5'10" so it's held back his recruitment a bit. I know OU had offered him as well. 5'10" is fine for PG in the MAC. Of course he comes from a family of 6'4"+ men so we also shouldn't rule out a late growth spurt. Some really great players got to where they are because they didn't grow until late so they had to learn to be effective without having a size advantage in HS.

Great News. Great family and he will come to college prepared and ready
To roll. Kudos to all involved

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
The term you used is right..."big". Cli'ron Hornbeak. Currently listed at 6'10" 245. I watched some of his videos a couple weeks ago when we offered him. My takeaway was he looks like a throwback back to the basketball center. No jump shots in his highlight film. Looks like he's got some polished post moves. The thing that excited me was seeing plenty of left handed and right handed hook shots...a lost art. Seems to have already mastered the jab right spin spin left, into a left handed hook shot post move (a personal favorite).

He appears to be a below the rim player though, which is a bit of a surprise for someone his size. Not a single dunk in his highlight film. Kent and Sendy have had a lot of success with polished below the rim post players and we've also had some luck with taking really big guys and getting them into much better shape. So I'm onboard with this guy. I think he's a style of player that doesn't fit every scheme in today's game, but there is a role for that player in Rob's system. And two years of him and KB banging in practice will be a 90's throwback for sure.

Here's his film.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
Some other thoughts on this commitment... Only three scholarships to give out this year (before defections) and we've already filled 2. That coupled with the amount of recruits we had to add in the spring period for this year is pretty impressive when you consider on campus recruiting trips were not allowed for a long period of time. So props to the coaches.

Also, the 21-22 team could be pretty impressive getting off the bus. As it stands now we'd have Bennett 6'11, Bainbridge 6'9", Hamilton 6'10", and now Hornbeak 6'10".

At first glance reminds me a bit of Gerwig before the shoulder/knee injuries.

I can see that. Nate wasn't 6'10 though, was he?

Nate was 6-8, closer to Whorton size ... and for all we know this guy might be the same, until we see him in the flesh. We all know how those HS heights can shrink a bit when they get on campus. --- But I still like him!
