It is, yes. But WLWT said the university confirmed it was supposed to be "social media fun" and that that field design not only wont be used but is against certain NCAA rules.

Boise has blue and I think it is Eastern WA that has red turf so why not red or black or mixed for us?

The article mentions that the yardage lines have to be white which they aren't in the mock up.. the skyline (which I thought was the best part) also may pose problems. In theory, you can have a colored field as long as it follows the guidelines. I believe Eastern Michigan's is gray as well.

That was great! This is more creativity than we've seen from UC Marketing (ever?), and I take it as a good sign. They're clearly having fun.

It's dumb to get worked up over it, BUT I think the only reason people even thought it was real is that we'd had the comment "Something big coming soon..." earlier. So when it got posted with that "something big" in everyone's head it made waves.

I don't think anyone is worked up about it I just don't think it was a bright idea. Why excite your own fan base for "Social Media Fun". Then, you have outsiders asking UC people if its true and I'm sure many confirmed it as such since it was coming from the official twitter. Also, the fact WLWT had to write an article saying its fake is not a good luck IMO.

Do I care? Not a bit...I'm pumped for Friday regardless.

Because they probably got 500,000 unique encounters out of it on their social media...that's kind of the goal.

wow at first i thought this was the most ridiculous waste of money lol. looks cool i guess but i already dont even like all the gimmicky uniform changes so i really didnt want field changes to become a thing.

but i've seen this everywhere, espn, fox sports, barstool sports, virtually everywhere college football is covered including local media and now i understand the genius. the team just got a crazy amount of publicity week of a big game!

First rule of Marketing: Do not lie and under deliver to your customer.

This is something a MAC school would do, not one aspiring to be a P5.

I agree.

I had clients in Cleveland in the 80's/90's and they were always a little edgy given the long drought up there. They would vent their frustration about the Reds' 1975 and '76 championships and the Bengals' two Super Bowl appearances the following decade, wondering why the Indians were hapless and the Browns were competitive but couldn't get over the hump.

It has been a terrible run for our pro sports teams for decades now and it's fair to say there is some hopelessness and a hunger for good news. The teaser message wasn't a big deal. But for fans of other schools to run with what appeared to be a bush league, cartoon-ish rendering on our historic field was annoying for a program aspiring to compete with the best.
