Tarleton State is the newest WAC member
Reliable news sources on Twitter are saying Tarleton State is moving their football team up to play as an FCS independent and all other sports to the WAC! Looks like Hurd is a busy little bee!

Not a fan of the 100+ mile drive from DFW airport to a small town but beggers cant be choosers. Would be perfect if ACU wasnt already in the Southland and could come with

Tarleton St will backfill in the Southland when Lamar, Sam Houston St, McNeese St and ORU join the WAC.

Tarleton St will much less travel in the Southland than even in the Lone Star.

Great news for the WAC
Here is another article on the subject.

So would this make Tarleton State and UTRGV travel partners with the others breaking down as follows:
TSU & UTRGV
GCU & NMSU
CBU & Dixie State
UVU & SU
leaving CSU alone (and perhaps on the way out)

Tarleton St will much less travel in the Southland than even in the Lone Star.
So we join the WAC next season just to leave for the Southland once they had two Texas schools, an Oklahoma school and one in Western Lousiana.

Why?

You won't be joining the WAC at all. Next year Tarleton will still D2 in a transitional year.

There is major bucks for travel especially for FB. The Southland travel will be less than the Lone Star. The WAC never made sense for Tarleton. Perhaps when it's finished transition and has actual NCAA money coming.

I agree with both of those points. Costs will increase and the Southland always appeared to be the better fit (with football).

I know you continue to push the idea that the WAC will restart FBS football.

What if they are starting FCS with Dixie, Tarleton and then selling other D2 schools to move up combined with showing Big Sky and Southland schools that their leagues are bloated for a 1bid league and actually peel some existing members away .

The FCS California schools will join the WAC.
The Northern Big Sky teams will join the Summit.
So they will be peeled away anyway.

The Big Sky will need more teams so Dixie St, UVU, and Seattle will join the remaining schools with a much smaller map and easier and less expensive travel.

Tarleton St will slip in the Southland when Sam Houston St, Lamar, and McNeese go to the WAC.

So much better for Tarleton. Have ACU as a travel partner with relatively little travel in the Southland.

This system is coming soon, but nobody here believes it unfortunately.

Schools with higher aspirations will leave the Southland and Big Sky as they have done for 40 years. Texas St and North Texas used to be Southland schools just as Boise St and Nevada used to be Big Sky schools.

Every Big Sky school that will leave have had major facility improvements. They aren’t spending that kind of money to stay FCS.

I found this impressive. No wonder Tarleton is itching to move up. That's not your typical D-II stadium.

Can we try and keep this to news about Tarleton St and not potential moves in the future.

Impressive to be sure. Hopefully they do something about their 2400 seat basketball gym that resembles that of Las Cruces High

Not too shabby. Glad the WAC continues to add.

The football angle to the WAC is starting to get interesting...

Tarleton is not even in the WAC yet and you are already talking about their inevitable move to the Southland. You are such an annoying tool...

Well I'm happy to see this. The WAC really needs another program with UMKC gone soon, and Chicago St. teetering on the edge. Good for Tarleton, and if another Texas school or two want to come over, the more the merrier.

No offense to Tarleton State, but that resembles a high school football stadium in Texas.

Berry Center in Houston.
