Cameraman is saddened by these developments. Cameraman was hoping to be crowned CLT-lite.

Any of these names would coach circles around this league. And we can't afford any of them.

I don't know who the coach for NDSU is (too lazy to look). But if we could entice him to come, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. I know he's FCS but nothing takes the place of consistently winning. He may like the area he's in and may not be interested.

It's the culture up there that keeps them winning. They have had 3 head coaches over the last 7 years who have all been successful.
Craig Bohl 2003–2013 (3 FCS National Titles) Currently at Wyoming
Chris Klieman 2014–2018 (4 FCS National Titles) Currently at Kansas State
Matt Entz 2019–present (4 FCS National Titles as DC) Currently has the team 4-0

Matt Entz is in his first season as a head coach at NDSU. He was the DC for their last HC Chris Klieman, who just took over at Kansas State. And the original coach that started their dynasty, Craig Bohl, is the head coach at Wyoming.

Haha he’s an odd Charlotte poster over on the main board who posts in third person. I get a kick out of both of your posts. Sometimes we all just need a good laugh.

I think this is the crucial detail so many on this board seem to forget. ODU has a cash flow problem.

RE: Who could replace BW?
I have a real issue with this money situation. Our admin is blessed with one of the largest budgets for any mid major program, and has been for as long as I can remember. I get that they just built a new stadium (that's another gripe about why they are unable to get any flexibility from the state...ever), but they were crying poor before there were plans to build the stadium. At some point they need to make some tough decisions and figure out how to support Men's Basketball and Football at the level they need to be supported to compete at the top of the mid major world. We support them at that level. They need to show an appreciation of the fan support they receive by making sure that our top programs are competing at a level that is commensurate with that support on a regular basis.
I remember Wood saying, when he was hired, that his goal was for every ODU sport to compete in the top 25% of their conference on a yearly basis. That should have been a warning sign that he was the wrong guy with the wrong approach. The goal should be to win championships... not to finish in the top 4. Frankly, I don't really give a damn if we finish 4th or 7th. It doesn't make a difference at that point. If we aren't competing for championships regularly, we are not where we need to be.

I believe the "top 25%" was stated as a minimal standard set for all programs. Whether it's considered good/bad/indifferent, the statement was not meant to be interpreted as if you're 4th every year then you're ok. Teams should be aiming for championships every year, even though it's highly unlikely to do so. But at worst, you shouldn't be coming in below that.
Now, for some sports programs, that statement will be tested to see if accountability is demanded.

The 2018 ODAF Game Plan claimed there were 2825 ODAF members. This year the same document claimed 2433 members. I just checked the ODAF site and the current number is 1813. One thousand fewer member should equate to at least $100,000 as the minimum contribution for an active account is $100. There must be some reason for the decline.

It pretty much looks like if you are 4th every season you are okay.
