Pitt vs. Duke actually a big game
The loser between Pitt and Duke loses a step in the race for the Coastal

If Pitt loses, they are done

I'm also assuming Pitt, UVA, and Duke are the best Coastal teams. There's North Carolina and Miami, but I really don't trust those teams. NC loses to App State, then nearly beats Clemson. Heckyll and Jeckyll

Duke looks like a real contender in the Coastal with their brutalizing of the hapless Hokies.

Did you watch Duke vs Alabama? Compared to UNC's performance against Clemson, UNC is a much better team than Duke.

Did you watch North Carolina vs. App State? The Tarheels lost. And despite the heroic effort against Clemson, it goes down as a conference loss

I'd argue Pitt, Duke, and Virginia are the top of the Coastal right now. Maybe Miami and UNC can play their way in...

The three teams that have beaten Carolina have a combined record of 14-0. I wouldn't count the Heels out of the coastal just yet.

Wake is definitely not a contender in the Coastal since they’re not a member of the Coastal division.

I got to tip my cap to Pat Narduzzi. He finally has his defense playing well. Not sure why it has taken 4 years, but I hope he can sustain it from year to year.

Yes, the Duke vs Pitt game will be big, can’t wait really. It could go either way, but I picked Duke finishing #2 in their division so I’m sticking with them as my pick to win.

RE: Pitt vs. Duke actually a big game
1.) I think we are probably done in the Coastal race regardless of the outcome of this weekend’s game. We need Virginia to lose twice and I just don’t see that happening.

2.) I think the key to this defense is accruing the athletes to run it. You’re really putting your players in a bind with this defense and it takes time to stock it with enough athletes to run it and longer still to give it depth.

I think all four of the starters in the secondary are going to play in the NFL. That’s a pretty big difference. Fortunately for Duke, one of those guys (Pinnock) is not going to play on Saturday. However, his back up (Mathis) is pretty good as well.

3.) For Pitt, this is the key stretch in the season. They have Duke in Durham and then Syracuse in the Carrier Dome – never an easy game. Then we have Miami at home and they are always loaded with great athletes. If we can somehow get through that stretch unscathed we are likely going to be in very good shape going down the stretch.

4.) Pitt’s defense this year has been very good despite having so many injuries to key players in the early going. Their defense next year should be truly outstanding.

As for the game itself, I expect it to be close and low scoring. I think both teams have really good defenses and maybe a few questions on offense. From Pitt‘s perspective, I think it’s going to come down to our ability to contain their quarterback, who seems extremely athletic. He’s going to be a challenge. On offense, it looks like we are going to be down our top two running backs again, so we’re probably going to have to do it through the air - with an injured quarterback. That makes me very uneasy.

RE: Pitt vs. Duke actually a big game
That was a legitimately bizarre game. We will take the win, but I’m still furious with Pitt for allowing Duke back in the game.

We played idiotically and selfishly all night long and it probably should’ve bitten us in the ass. Fortunately, we made a big play at the end and stole it. However, it never should’ve gotten remotely close to that point. Burn that tape because that was certainly no Rembrandt.

I still can’t understand why on earth they took their punt returner out of the game there? Why would you do that? Basically, the only way you can lose when you’re up by 23 points in the second half is if you start turning the ball over — and that’s exactly what we did!

We won the game and I am still really pissed off.

Also, that’s one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever seen. There were insane decisions left and right against both teams that made no sense. That crew should be nowhere near any important games going down the stretch because they were worse than either of the two teams that kept turning the ball over.
