Toungue Monday Musings the beginning of #MACTION
They Bye week is over and we head up US-27 to Mount Pleasant (not a mountain and not a pleasant place to be) Where a windy Kelly Shorts Stadiums and Chips in transition will meet the Huron-Eagles. I think we are in for an ugly muck it type of game that I hope we can pull off.
Toledo beat the Mormons and may have sealed the fate of their coach.
NIU LOST to the SEC's version of Rutgers. (But have been our Achilles Heel) Or bump in the road on 94 on the way to Detroit.)
WMU I'am unsure about this year but they come to Ypsi.
Ball State 2020 Hokemania 2.0 is my prediction.
Thompson Block almost done and looks good, maiz has some secret spots behind it if you are eating there.
Akron is really bad. Need some more Lebron Money to get it going.
That is all from stool seat 5.

Think you are incorrect on NIU. They lost to Vandy Saturday.

That went through my mind, but CC does not seem like a NYC (or any really big city) type of guy.

I missed the trip to Rutgers, but I believe it is about 35 miles from Manhattan.

I see CC as a possible B1G coach for say Illinois.

Agree on WMU, not so sure about them either yet, but I like where they're headed. Do us a favor and beat the stuffing out of CMU so that our game can be for the Michigan MAC again. Ok?

Also agree on the Thompson block, it's finally looking like it's coming together after the fire in 09. I lived near there at the time and remembered walking by the smouldering building, convinced that it was going to become a parking lot. Love that it was saved.

Also, the parking behind Maiz isn't really that much of a secret anymore, but yay for parking issues in Depot town. At some point they'll need to figure something out, especially with the Thompson restaurants coming on-line eventually.

I heard a rumor that a Jolly Pumpkin Brewery is coming to at the location of the Vietnamese restaurant at the corner of Michigan and Huron. Have you heard anything about that?

I have not heard that. I Believe the Blue Tractor owners own the Thompson Block and will be putting in 2 restaraunts there.

FWIW I hate the blue tractor, hopefully what they put in will be better than that.

I did hear Bobcat Bonnies is going in where Bona Sera is. 04-cheers

I believe Mash (Whiskey bar in Ann Arbor) will be in one of the locations in the Thompson Block.

Ann Arbor is invating ypsi.

Nickle I see that as a huge positive. Ann Arbor has lost a litany of local businesses to national chain interests and is gradually losing what made it unique. It soon may look no different than Columbus or Iowa City for that matter.

The Greff's moved the heart of their Arbor Brewing operations to the old Motor wheel location and seem to be doing well at the Corner Brewery for example. Ypsilanti presents a huge real estate cost advantage for local businesses looking to expand. Intelligent and strategic government actions could result in Ypsilanti becoming what Ann Arbor used to be, a unique and cutting edge community that attracts out of town visitors.

This truly is how communities should be revitalized, private investors like Dan Gilbert in Detroit putting their own skin in the game because they realize a lucrative business opportunity. Each investment tends to attract more like a snowball rolling down the hill. By contrast, the effort of Ypsilanti government to orchestrate a revival as in the disastrous Water Street project has been comedic for all except for Ypsilanti taxpayers.

EMU, as the current economic engine in the City, needs to be a part of this revival. The new Health Building and Amazon pick up site are very good initiatives in doing so. Also once folks see that they can watch high quality football at EMU in a far more relaxed and far, far more inexpensive venue than six miles down Washtenaw, who knows what will happen?

I think as more local quality talent is attracted to the EMU Football program, and as this Ypsi revival continues, we'll see more and more families coming out to Eagle's games. It's too damn expensive for a family of five to go to Ann Arbor or East Lansing for a game. With free parking and lower ticket prices, add in some familiar names on the field, and I think EMU Football becomes a real value for a family. And it's close enough to Metro-Detroit that a regularly successful footbal program will get some solid publicity as well.

CC has been successful in rebranding EMU football and in a unique way with E Tough the grey turf and the Factory. Going back to a simple E logo has also been positive.

I gotta say, I don't think the fit is there. Rutgers will not succeed without a serious commitment by the school, as it is they're borrowing against future B1G revenues for current operations.

CC has done a very nice job, but there are coaches out there who have had dramatic turnarounds. Wealthy alumni will look at his record and say we can do better. They won’t care much about academics, conduct and other less tangible accomplishments. They care about wins and losses.

Correct They will not like his recruiting rankings either
Here CC can run the program at other schools alums and boosters have a large input

Guys this opening terrifies me. None of the other mentioned candidates have accepted a less attractive job than Creighton did when he came to EMU. Also Clark, Candle and Jones are most likely looking for far better opportunities than risk their careers dying or stalling trying to climb the mountain at Rutgers like Ash did, I doubt they will be interested in the least. It is hardly a dream job.

Creighton, however, already accepted and has flourished in probably what was considered the worst job in the FBS. Rutgers would present a similar challenge in the Power 5, but as we know despite their financial issues Rutgers will probably at least double his current salary. As Eagle Tough has pointed out in the past, many Power 5 booster programs won't like his overall record but at Rutgers I doubt that will be an issue.

I'm rooting for Schiano as he was truly jacked around by Tennessee fans who actually were delusional thinking that John Gruden was interested in their job. Next for Monken who I truly believe could do some nice things for Rutgers. He would be the Paul Johnson who came to Georgia Tech from Navy. He could build a team with the extremely physical athletes who run the veer well but are not attractive to the blue blood programs and be an absolute pain in the ass to the blue bloods as witnessed recently in Ann Arbor. He won't win a National Championship but nobody including Nick Saban could do so in New Jersey. He could, however, produce winning records and make the program relevant in the Big Ten. It's not a big geographical move for him either.

Fingers crossed, just hoping they don't come calling for Creighton.

Yep, Creighton will certainly take a hit for that. He's added nice pieces via Juco, but boosters and average Joe fan will give him a lot of grief for his 'rankings'.

Rutgers is one of the few jobs I'd pass on if I was Creighton.

If i was rutgers I would hire someone who could recruit florida better than anyone else in the big 10 because the only way you can win there is if you raid florida. the jobs id be worried about CC taking that might be available:
Purdue
Iowa State
Kentucky
Cincinnati
