Rice went from 247 points to 317.

WKU moving up and is now 3rd among other receiving votes (39 points).

Cal (11-1) moved up from 21st to 19th after losing to former #1 Stanford in 4 sets and beating Washington State in 5 (15-4 in the 5th!).

Somehow, 6-5 Illinois also moves up two -- from 20th to 18th -- after losing to #2 Nebraska in 5 sets (15-10 in the 5th) and sweeping 7-6 Iowa (-21, -18, -22).

Utah (9-4) dropped down from 18th to 20th after sweeping Colorado (8-3) and losing to Oregon (5-6,but ranked #25 this week) in 5 sets (12-15 in the 5th).

Congrats. That's 13 straight games won by the Owls since the clinching 5th-set in the UT match. That's not a season high quite yet, but we play a truly awful USM team next Friday and quite honestly, that should be another sweep. What were Lennon's stats - 5 straight awards for her perhaps?

Doubt it. She had a double double but only 12 kills. More balanced offense today.

And there are few roads less forgiving than that salty road to Hawaii.

The #3 Stanford ladies struggled at #25 Oregon in the first set, but came on strong to win in 4 sets...and doing so with 2-time defending national Player of the Year, Kathleen Plum, who's out for the two weekend road games. The Cardinal are a super-talented serving team (9 aces), and are incredibly balanced, but they're a senior-laden team.

The loss dropped Hawaii to 18 in this unofficial RPI and 14 in Massey.
For comparison Rice is 12 and 15.

They need to keep winning just to avoid getting sent to Waco or Austin for the first two rounds.

I kind of thought we might move ahead of Purdue or Hawai'i. Texas moved up to #4. I'm going to check on which coaches don't have Rice ranked and report back with the results.

Jozsef Forman (Coastal Carolina) doesn't have Rice ranked but has Oregon (5-8) at #13.
Seems that were some coaches that dropped Rice for some teams that went 2-0 over the weekend vs our 1-0.

RE: VB in conference play
Yeah that Coastal Carolina coach also has Iowa State ranked when pretty much no one else does (they've lost to UCF and Texas, and beat Ole Miss in 4 whereas we beat them in 3). Looks like the Western Michigan coach also has yet to rank us this season (they have Western Kentucky #24). Those might be the only two who have yet to rank us, but as you said there were at least 3 coaches (Siena, Manhattan and Fresno State) who had ranked us a week ago but not this week. Maybe we'll be punished even further after playing USM this week.

RE: VB in conference play
According to the unofficial RPI site, Rice's strength of schedule ranks 39th in Division I, which is helping keep up the Owls' lofty RPI. There may be some erosion of it because of the relative weakness of Rice's remaining schedule, but if the Owls keep winning, they may do well enough to earn a regional hosting position. Right now, Rice is rated so far above any other C-USA team that in Massey's system the Owls are projected to lose only 0.38 matches the rest of the regular season. This week's opponents, Southern Mississippi and Middle Tennessee, are the two-lowest rated teams in the conference, and Rice is listed as having a 100% chance of winning each match. In fact, the Owls' odds of winning any remaining C-USA match aren't below 89%, even the Western Kentucky one on November 10.
