Tyner was 1/5 for 2yds against OU before getting pulled. Still glad to see him get a shot but shows that the problems weren’t totally on Bloomgren.

OU leads 34-10 at half.

A&M holds off Arkansas 31-27 in Arlington - those games always seem to be close.

That's too bad. I was pulling for him.

The TV commentator dissed JT pretty harshly during few second-half minutes I watched that game. In summing up Texas Tech's first half, it went something like ... "Jackson Tyner, the graduate transfer from Rice, was Tech's quarterback for their first two series, but he did absolutely nothing."

In the first game of today's CUSA vs. AAC tripleheader -- all home games for CUSA -- Marshall trails Cincinnati 45-0 entering the 4th quarter.

The game was in Huntington, too.

ODU was favored over East Carolina in the second game but falls 24-21 in Norfolk, and UNT -- who became favored over UH with D'Eriq King's decision to quit on the season after 4 games -- trail the Coogs 39-18 in the 4th quarter in Denton.

I was surprised by Vegas (or was it the press?) favoring UNT. After watching UH a few games, I expected them to win even without King

RE: OT - Other games (Sept. 27/28)
AP Poll is up today. SMU is now the first ever team to work from death penalty to ranked at #24, just ahead of A&M (T-25 with Michigan State). Texas is #11. Nobody else in the state is ranked, but Baylor is getting votes.

Rice's opponents:
  • #11 Texas (bye, no change in rank)
  • #22 Wake Forest (27-24 W @ Boston College, newly ranked)
Also receiving votes:
  • #30 Army (52-21 W vs I-AA Morgan St)
  • #32 Baylor (23-21 W @ Iowa St)

That's our entire OOC ranked or receiving votes. Army is about 100 points short of breaking the top 25 and not likely to do it except by attrition of those ahead of them. Baylor trails Army for now but has a better chance to be ranked with a XII schedule.

Who were they racing against? Aren't they the only team to get the death penalty?

Highlighting that they've gone from sanctioned out of having a team back to ranked during a period where our best AP result was "also receiving votes" just before getting destroyed in the Liberty Bowl by Mississippi State. If SMU could claw back to national prominence, we ought to be able to, as well.

I agree, it is just the "first" part that caught my attention. There will no "second'. So SMU was always going to be the first, since nobody else qualified. Just had to work their way up. Took 30 years, which is a record for the shortest period from death penalty to ranked.
