GT Basketball - Kicked while we were down...
NCAA bans Georgia Tech from 2020 postseason, takes away scholarships

So... trying to rebuild a program and the NCAA can't be having that.

Lessons learned:
1) Don't cooperate with the NCAA. We've done it twice and gotten burned both times
2) You have to have success before you can get away with cheating
3) Mike Bobinski can rot for what he did to GT Athletics in a short time. I hope Purdue has a backup plan for disaster.

Also, make no mistake ... this seals Pastner's fate. He's going to be the b*tch to serve out the NCAA sentence. He'll get no more money. Nor will his assistants. The coaching search to replace Pastner started today.

I wonder if this is a “just cause” firing offence? If so, would not his buy out be minuscule?

Pastner was cleared by the NCAA investigation and an independent investigation GT conducted. We thought of that first thing.

That's not to say Pastner isn't responsible .... he just wasn't aware or involved in the violations that occurred. BUT, he did choose to bring Ron Bell with him from Memphis. That's his choice. And ergo he's culpable at least in part for the dumb*** and illegal **** Ron Bell tried to pull.

BY THE WAY .... the recruit that Jarret Jack took the strip club in Atlanta? He went to Duke. Wonder what the cost of that was? His parents mysteriously moved into a brand new house while he was at Duke. But yeah, come after GT for that $300 at a strip club and pretend nothing happened at all in Durham.

THIS ....

It cannot be stated enough or more emphatically.

Kansas has seen enough to know this lesson. They are pulling the UNC approach --- fight it with everything you can.

Louisville tried to get in front, turned over everything in it's investigation --- and it cost us a banner, two final fours, and over 100 victories.

Notre Dame self reported some VERY minor tutoring transgression ... and lost an entire season of victories for their honesty.

The NCAA is trying HARD to make the P5 conference say "enough of this crap from you --- we'll form our own governing entity."

That day is coming. Sooner rather than later.

I would defer to you ... 1 season is overkill ... so 2 doesn't surprise me in the least.

Really ridiculous.

RE: GT Basketball - Kicked while we were down...
To me, the most egregious (and capricious) part of this punishment is the recommendation that all current GT basketball players be able to transfer immediately without having to sit out a year. It's almost like they are trying to kill the program without technically having to invoke the "death penalty". That says to me that for some reason (possibly not directly related to these offenses) GT has a target on its back from the NCAA. What did they do to piss somebody off that badly?

Well we could've told you that.

He crafted his slimy ways at holier than thou/we're better than you Zavier.

Where do you think Sean Miller learned how to cheat?

At some point we need to investigate the ups and downs of this. Maybe start another thread so we don't crowd this one.

Since most people could list 100 pros easily, what would the cons be?

The buck stops at the top for me... Pastner may be cleared of wrongdoing but is still responsible. So for Pastner, congrats on having four years guaranteed income but after that the door will be closed on your butt.

Duke will never fall until after coach K leaves. Maybe not after that depending on the next hire.
