Got 8 days to get it fixed before MLB playoff games start on FS1.

Got a big Penn St/Maryland football game tomorrow night. Then Kansas/TCU and Washington St/Utah on Saturday.

Wrong. Have 3ish days to get it fixed before those Fox NFL games

True.

Amazing how quiet this was compared to what Disney did with DirecTV.

don't know if Dish gets the NFL network, but if they don't- it's 5 hours actually before tonight's game then.

I think this is a bigger loser for DISH than Fox. Fox channels aren't anywhere near as expensive as ESPN/Disney.

It's already a mess.

Tonight's Eagles@Packers is FOX's first Thursday Night NFL game.

This Sunday, CBS has the Doubleheader with FOX have the ancillary/local 4:15 games and Buck/Troy will have Sunday off.

Like I've said elsewhere, it's really a catch-22 for everyone involved.

The biggest reason why people choose to drop cable/satellite is the high price, which is caused the most by sports channels.

At the same time, though, the biggest reason why people choose to keep cable/satellite is for sports. The vast majority of everything else on TV can be obtained through other sources (e.g. OTA, Netflix, Hulu, etc.).

It's not just Fox. Here in Chicago, Comcast-run NBC Sports Chicago is in a carriage dispute with both Dish and DirecTV where the current contract runs out October 1st (just as the new Blackhawks season begins and a couple of weeks before the Bulls season starts).

I'm not sure what the breaking point is - the fewer channels that cable/satellite offer (particularly sports), then the less attractive it is, which means that there are fewer subscribers and that increases the frequency of carriage disputes, which results in even fewer channels (and so on and so forth).

Really? I keep cable because my wife likes female-oriented channels. Otherwise, I would just pay for Youtube TV, which seems to offer plenty of sports channels for $50 a month.

Actually, I think the biggest reason people keep cable or satellite is for the local channels. But more people are rediscovering OTA. At least those who get a pretty good signal. The rural people will have to stay with cable or satellite.

it is for those that have the sports package I'd guess.

It’s inherent in the fact that the subscriber fees for ESPN and your applicable regional sports network are the highest out of all the channels on any cable/satellite lineup and other sports channels are not far behind. That’s not just random or because the cable companies are throwing stupid money around - it’s because the sports networks have the most leverage. Sports fans don’t necessarily constitute the largest audience, but they’re definitely the most inelastic audience. NFL and college football ratings are up this year, which is an insane feat when the TV ratings for *everything* keeps going down. It’s people like us on this forum that are keeping the cable bundle (and its close cousin of the streaming bundle) alive, whether we like it or not. If we actually want to watch our favorite sports teams, we literally have no other choice, which is what gives those sports networks far more negotiating power compared to any other type of network.

Sure since you’re also accommodating the needs of your spouse. Of course, would you be willing to switch to a service that has the female-oriented channels but none of the sports channels? If the answer is no, then that shows the leverage that sports channels have over any service that bundles channels (whether it’s cable, satellite or streaming).

Which is why I think the bubble is going to eventually burst on all these big FBS programs who’ve been building these huge athletic departments on these TV dollars. I think eventually it will cause advertisers to ball at the ad rates when the eyeballs aren’t there anymore. YMMV
