I wouldn't brag about those stores if I were you.

Oh, great... if game tickets and cable bills aren't enough, now we're going to have to pay to go to the stinkin' grocery store?

The reports are that things have normalized since opening day — no trouble parking or getting in the store or checking out.

04-cheers I just like Wegmans because the selection is awesome.

BTW, I bet we'll see some Wegmans in Florida within 5-10 years.

The only concern would be: do the stores have issues when the snowbirds are up North?

I absolutely agree with you about Wegmans being in Florida soon. There are enough transplants down there that Wegmans would be busy all year round. Think of the Floridians that will get hooked on Wegmans. The tourists. Alot of wealthy Floridians will go to Wegmans just because it has an upscale feel to it.

If any of you get a chance, you have to try Wegmans pizza. Its very good thin crust pizza. You can order a huge 16 inch pepperoni pizza for $13 and some change, including taxes. Thats a very good price for a pizza in NY.

All told, 30,000 people shopped at the Raleigh Wegman's on opening day - another record for the chain. Not a bad start.

I'm sure it's good, but so is Harris Teeters... and it's $1 cheaper per pie.

transplants have already driven up the cost of real estate to the point where middle class Southerners can no longer afford it... now they're going to drive up the cost of pizza, too? IS NOTHING SACRED?

I feel the same way about southerners and pizza as southerners feel about northerners and BBQ!

Charlotte has never seen anything like Wegman's... when it moves in, it will take over!

There is a reason Wegman's is routinely one of the best companies to work for and top of the grocery store national surveys.

New stores are in the 150,000 square foot range making them larger than a typical Walmart and nearly the size of Walmart Super Centers, but a Wegman's is only groceries.

Their service is top notch, the selection second to none, and the scale of how they operate - will make instant fans!

During my decade in Charlotte... I hated Harris Teeter stores... so overrated and expensive for the piss poor quality one got there - Whole Foods is the only chain I currently know in North Carolina that comes close to Wegman's quality levels, but it totally lacks in selection and just the vastness of Wegman's.

If they are that big and have the corresponding increase in selection ... well now you have my interest. The question would be where you came in on price and if you had pickup service. I go to non-standard places for various things like Fresh Meat (Costco), Frozen Meat (Costco), Fresh Produce (Publix), Bakery (Publix), and Misc (BiLo) for quality or price ... but typically for both. Here's a great way to test the quality of the produce section ... find the chopped salad kits and look at the date. Wally World? In house brand only +3/4 days. Bi-Lo? Dole +5-6 days. Publix? Fresh Express +10-14 days. Now which do YOU want to eat?

GTS the furthest south they have a warehouse is Richmond. They will have to build another one. It'll be interesting to see where it goes. I think Charlotte is the next huge market they go after. A warehouse in Greenville, SC would make total sense if they plan to reach into ATL. Or do they build near Fayetteville, NC, Columbia, SC, Savannah, GA and head towards FL?
