Parking and Tailgating Options
Coming into town for the ECU game. Are there places to park and tailgate that don’t require a parking pass? Thanks for any suggestions.

You can park in the garages on both sides of the Ted for free but cannot tailgate in there due to ABC laws. You can tailgate on Kaufmann Mall for free but need to lug your stuff over there and back (before the game). You could drop off the stuff at the curb, park at the Ted and walk back.

I'll add that our alumni association hosts a tailgate for $20 per person on Kaufmann Mall. You get an all-you-can-eat buffet and one drink ticket. They also have a cash bar.

You can park at the Ted as Drunkard suggested. When I visit other teams schools I typically just walk around until I see a friendly group and say Hi! So far I've never met a group that didn't invite me in at ECU, UNC, VT, or wherever. =]

But if you intend to setup shop and hang that's a little tougher given our environment. Not a lot of real estate available with surface lots with private business owners that put up signs that allow any and all to tailgate for X fee. I wonder if that's because of our ABC laws and the liability. I know at Gville just about every strip mall or shopping area surrounding the school becomes a tailgate lot. Not the same here.

I do the same and would imagine practically any ODU tailgate would welcome Spur in.

As for the lack of private lots, it doesn't help that the closest and biggest shopping area is owned by ODU Real Estate. But I'm surprised students haven't started selling spaces at their rentals.

I think I remember seeing a church or two in Lambert's Point that sell parking/tailgating (near 35th Street). But it's a bit of hike from there.

Could someone park at the Ted and carry some gear to the grass tailgate lot next door and set up a small tailgate. Ton of room there and if you keep it simple chairs, a table and coolers, I don't think it would be a problem. Guess they would shut that down if it got too popular. I know students use to do that at other lots. Kaufman might be best bet.

You can usually buy tailgate lot passes on the secondary market.

White lot, 5 hours before kickoff. All other lots, 4 hours before kickoff.
