from our perspective, yes. Competitive team with a great game day experience less than 3 hours away. Better than ECU, and Tulsa.

I agree, it was a pleasant surprise. Route 823 makes that trip much easier than it used to be, and Huntington was actually a nice spot to party. Pretty easy to get around and a quite a few places to eat and drink. Fun, easy road trip. As always, when you win it makes the trip a whole lot better.

RE: Um...Is Anyone Going to Huntington?
I was sitting behind a Marshall fan who was lamenting the lack of a true crowd last night. The full crowd of 32,000 didn't actually show up until just before half time and then promptly left right after UC scored on our first possession of the 2nd half. The announced total of 32,800is qualified as the "11th highest ranked attendance" in Joan C. Edwards' stadium history...and that includes 2 WVU sellouts and a visit by Louisville.

Would Marshall be "better" than Tulsa? Undoubtedly. But as far as adding them to the Conference? I don't see it, honestly.

RE: Um...Is Anyone Going to Huntington?
I'm not sure what that guy was looking at as the crowd looked to all pretty much be there at kick off from what i saw. Not a lot of open seats and warm. I know one thing it's a heck of lot nicer at a place like that or Nippert getting a drink or going to the bathroom vs OSU. However, he was correct about folks leaving at half, but honestly as warm as it was, and as one sided as it was, i can't necessarily fault them. That game was never in the balance.

Was sitting on the West/home side, down at about the 10... Had a pretty good view of the whole thing.

I did get a good chuckle out of the sign at the sink in the men's room that read, "This is a hand-washing sink, NOT a urinal."

I was on the sunny side. While it was warm, the breeze helped a lot as did the light cloud cover. Wasn't bad at all.

I'd much rather see a game at Marshall than at Ohio Stadium. $45 for seats right on the 50 yard line (row 49) at Marshall vs. $90 in the endzone/ozone at OSU? Ohio Stadium is crap.

Had several pleasant conversations with Marshall fans, which was a nice surprise. I was expecting the worst.

Look, don't get me wrong. I (and my sons) had a great time. The Marshall fans were very congenial...even after the game. Is Joan C. Edwards a good place to watch a game? Sure. (Though I have been there in not so nice weather and it can be as unpleasant a place in the rain and sleet as anywhere else can be...) Is it a good road game for UC? Absolutely. But apart from those things, which can be accomplished OOC, I don't see Marshall as a good fit for the AAC. I think Marshall is a better fit for either the MAC or the SBC or CUSA...whichever of those conferences goes to a small, Southern city route. (Assuming CUSA and the SBC eventually realign to a more regional and consistent structure.)

But, especially living in West Virginia, I've got nothing against Marshall or UC playing there.

Bolded, I have to believe some of those member schools drop back to FCS...or lower and we'll see the remnants of the CUSA/SB/MAC re-form. Survival of the fittest. I do agree that Marshall has a good program, fine fans, some historic tradition, and makes for a good road game on occasion. But I can't imagine why the American would expand with a G5 in a city of 50,000 population in a small, rural state where the Herd is a distant second in most every way to the flagship WVU.

At this point, BYU or Boise may be the only "brands" that would add value to the American's profile and both are problematic in terms of the geographic footprint and Olympic sports. I think the AAC should sit tight and build strength from within. With three teams ranked this week, along with at least three more contenders, quality is pretty good and not worth diluting. UCONN did us a tremendous favor in terms of conference strength by exiting stage left; addition by subtraction.

The only schools the AAC would consider adding are BYU, Army, Air Force and/or possibly one of the stronger brands out of the MWC. Marshall, ODU, Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, WKY, WMU or some other school that has been mentioned by a poster or two are not being considered by the conference. The real answer is the conference is adding nobody, as Aresco has indicated the AAAC is not interested in the schools that have willingly thrown their hat into the ring.

Outside of decent fan support for a decent football program, what else does Marshall provide?

The Huntington/Ashland metro is over 300,000, but it is a poor, remote area of the country. Great for a road trip, but I don't think Marshall is a good fit for the AAC.

As far as road trips go, I don't think the UC attendance was overwhelming.

I'd rather make the trip to Huntington every 3 years than going up north to oxford.

Speaking of bathrooms, they go with the old time trough rather than a urinal. Much quicker service if you know what I mean. I do agree with you about never a conference member, but it would be better for us than the two teams mentioned. We need close road trips.
