How good is Pitt this year?
When I look at their schedule, I think they have the opportunity to go 10-2 or 9-3

If they get passed Syracuse, I see them favored in every game after that, including vs. Miami and VT

They are almost as good as Penn State, the second best team of B1G.

But still worst than UVA. Wisconsin and Ohio State look better than PSU, maybe even MSU and UM.

Hard to tell what you are getting with Pitt right now.

Pitt could win all their remaining ACC games but that really is more of an indictment of how bad is the coastal division as opposed to meaning Pitt is really good. We probably won't know how good Pitt is until after their bowl game. Assuming it's a good opponent.

It’s Pitt, they beat good teams every year and then lose inexplicable games in heartbreaking fashion. I doubt this year will be any different.

RE: How good is Pitt this year?
I think that’s lazy analysis, I really do. This team is clearly different than many of its predecessors — structurally different.

I think Pitt FINALLY has a really good defense and when you are good defensively you always have a chance. I was surprised as anyone to be saying this because they lost the two men who were basically universally considered to be their best players on that unit by the second quarter of the Virginia game.

However, you are finally starting to see legitimate depth at all three levels and certainly speed at all three levels that’s a really big deal.

Also, Pitt has been aided by the play of defensive tackle, Jaylen Twyman.

It is FINALLY fast and athletic at all three levels. The Panthers have played a really tough schedule to start the season — arguably the toughest on the conference — and they have held a bunch of really good offenses are scored a bunch of points their lowest respective outputs of the season.

I’m very surprised to be saying that because we lost who was considered our best defense of lineman right before the season began and then we lost our second best offense of lineman in the second quarter of our first game. However, there is clearly depth there because other guys of stuff forward and look very good as well. I think Pittsburgh defense next year is going to be right up there with the best defenses in the conference.

I posted the following comment on my blog:
"As good as UVA has looked, I wouldn't be surprised if Pitt sneaks in the back door and wins the Coastal again. Wouldn't that be #GoACC for yinz?"

So I'm on record as saying I wouldn't be surprised if Pitt wins the Coastal.

BTW, did you use a voice-to-text program to create your last post, Doc? Some of your text makes more sense audibly than visually. I understood what you meant, just curious really.

RE: How good is Pitt this year?
Pitt has a really good defense and finally they have some depth on both sides of the ball. Depth has been a problem for us during the last 10 years. Good two deep talent and thin beyond that. Narduzzi has given the keys to the offense to Whipple. The schemes are effective. There are open players on every play. Pickett needs to find them and get the ball there. Pickett is streaky so Pitt will probably go as far as Kenny can take them. If we play like we did on Saturday, we will run the rest of the schedule undefeated. As a Pitt fan, I fear we will see the weird unexplained loss somewhere.

Totally guilty! LOL!

Also, I was working on something else professionally and got distracted.

The point is they finally look deep and athletic on defense and they’ve been able to sustain the loss of their two best defensive players. They return most of those people for next year and they should be much, much better then.

I imagine Doc speaks with a thick German accent and is working on cyborg implants for the football team. Looks like it worked last week Doc, that will show your colleagues that you have gone “mad”.

Now I was thinking cybernetic implants was more of a VT or GT thing. When I think of Pitt, I think more "super soldier serum".

RE: How good is Pitt this year?
FSU also has an engineering school, but our cyborg implants would be made of pvc and wood.

I don't know if Miami has an engineering school or not, but their implants are mostly silicone. Rimshot
