While basketball appears poised to have a phenomenal season, following Penny's signing of the #1 recruiting class is the country, I believe a thread title like this one is derogatory to our football program. Maybe the OP is a "basketball only" fan. I don't know. I do think that when our football team is 3-0 and ranked #26 in the country, it is offensive to them when somebody says that opening basketball practice is the start of the Greatest Season.

Am I the only one who thought this was a slap at football?

It does seem like an odd thread title when we are currently undefeated in football. And that fact evidently bothers some (usual suspects in 3, 2, 1...). But I've got a fresh supply of benefits-of-doubt, so I'm good.

First of all, this has nothing to do with dissing football. Never even entered my mind. I'll be there tomorrow night, as always. But I have watched this team and they aren't world beaters. Houston's players quiting helped, Navy, LA Monroe and Temple will be tough, and I think a New Years Bowl will be a miracle, but I hope it happens.

Second, and more importantly, I hope Isaiah Maurice plays a lot, that means that Precious and James did their job and are sitting back, enjoying watching the rest of the game. Being freshmen, I also think they will be prone to foul trouble. Its really awesome to have Lance and Isaiah and Isaiah and maybe Malcolm to step right in there.

I agree, I think we win, but we've beaten some pretty good visiting teams here at home when we weren't pretty good. Winning on the road against anyone is an accomplishment.

Per Calkins, Malco just stood in a knee brace with the coaches. But I wasn't there, so this could be wrong.

Now that Madness is ticketed it is a much more enjoyable experience. The old days of fighting for and fighting to keep a seat are history. Hardaway talks (he doesn't take the microphone during any of the games I've been to.) We get to see all the players and I enjoy the contests and scrimmage. (only time that happens) and we get to completely impress the recruits that will attend. And its just a party celebrating Tiger Basketball. Well worth the $10 IMHO

It will be much less chaotic than the parade in April on Beale Street!

RE: The Greatest Season starts today BASKETBALL!
I agree about the ticketed event. It allows us to subsidize the cost of the event (budget is always an issue at Memphis), and - as you said - improves the enjoyment of the event. Now you don't have to race for seats and you know that everyone there is appreciating the program. I think the $10 price point is a good spot for this event. Glad Rudd, Bowen, and Penny came up with this last year.
