I was thinking all week the game was going to be on WJHL and just read it would be delayed and shown at midnight. Strange I think.

Thanks. That was about what I was expecting.

Yeah, me, too. I don't think we can contain their QB, and he slashes and/or gets to the edge too many times. Hope I'm wrong.

I dunno. I think our defense is good enough to give them fits, but the offense will struggle and the defense will tire.

I think it's a game at halftime. We'll see how it goes from there.

Why in the world did we not run a play there right before halftime at midfield?

Coaching malpractice on both sides. Furman should’ve called a timeout as soon as the third down play was over in order to force ETSU to punt or go for it on 4th down. When Sanders realized that a Furman timeout wasn’t going to happen, he should’ve took a timeout with a second left to at least attempt a Hail Mary. It’s not like it was in a spot on the field that would take a Superman heave to the end zone. Puzzling for sure.

We've got a mismatch in the trenches. Their D-line can't win with four guys and they're going to have to bring pressure to get into the backfield.

Now would be a great time for a screen to Holmes or Saylors.

Play calling is terrible. Run in the middle over and over. No passes to TE, no passes down the seams and why two runs in the middle instead of trying to get in FG range and then let the clock run out at midfield. Sanders said he only had in 35% of the offense last year, it looks like he has only 25% this year.

We wouldn't have to run the ball three out of every four plays if we had anything resembling a competent quarterback. Mitchell is in way over his head against Division I opposition.

Outside of one nice throw to the TE, QB play has been bad again. Why not give Thrasher a series just to see if he could provide a spark?

Thrasher is still not 100%. I refuse to believe Sanders would go with Mitchell if he had any choice.

And are we 100% sure Thrasher is still injured, or is something else going on.

Hats off to the defense. They’re giving it their all and limiting a good offense despite having an anemic one on their own sideline.

Well, have to win out in the league to be in playoff consideration. I guess we should be happy that is even a discussion. Just not gonna be able to get it done with a hobbled 3rd string QB and lots of drops.

We’ve been hit with an ol fashion butt kicking run of bad luck with our QB situation.

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
The QB doesn't call the plays. The Furman defense played run on first and second down and pass blitzed on third the whole game and Sanders obliged them doing exactly what their defense expected 85-90% of the time. Furman put 8 guys in the box on 1st and second down and constantly kept the Bucs behind the chains. The only time our RB's got to the outside was the hole was clogged and they bounced outside.
Sanders ran a slip screen and gained big yardage, he called a seam route to the TE, again big yardage. Never called either play again. He called one deep sideline, ball was perfectly thrown, receiver dropped it. 89 was open all day, caught several, but didn't call his number down the stretch. No screens, no drag routes, no sweeps, nothing to make the defense play honest. Sanders told everyone that he has a package for Mcgue. He said they needed to get the ball in his hands. To my knowledge, he had one play from scrimmage, a run for 5yds.

His playcalling put the QB in obvious pass situations which allowed Furman to blitze and play pass defense all the way, No QB can be effective being pressured and harrassed on every pass play. Furman totally ignored the pass on 1st and second downs, that's why the Bucs had success passing on the few times they passed on 1st and 2nd downs.

The same old vanilla, predictable offense needs to change.

Hats of to the defense and offense for doing as well as they did. The defense played them better than either Va Tech or Ga. State.
