RE: MBB Season Ticket Renewal Numbers
Don’t lump me in with others.
I don’t want the AD gone. I get that the china gets broken when a new AD comes in. I get that a new AD gets to hire her own people. I get that she’s pro-athletics and appears to have the ear of the President.
However, the firing of Shaver was egregious, and ended the honeymoon. If any sports are cut to feed the beast of the Big 3, to satisfy the rules and reps of the corrupt NCAA, and/or that we can hire more Administrators, I will join the ranks of those who want her fired. If these opinions turn off any player, recruit, or parent, I don’t care ... not sure that I want to be part of a tribe that thinks to the contrary. This is core belief stuff.
I don’t give a rear end about the Director’s Cup, but let’s remember that we did well when the soccer programs, combined with football, were in their glory days. Perhaps there is something to the notion that good coaches shouldn’t be forced out, and that same is counterproductive to the publicly-stated goals.
As for Title IX, enough of the bloodletting. Lacrosse and wrestling, and those alumni, were enough of a cost. No more! Add a sport, or change classification.
As to hard-working current athletes representing our school, don’t former athletes who busted tail for our school, in sports now in jeopardy, get a “say”, or are we only “good for our money” once we graduate?
The Gold Lot is “empty”. Why? It would help if the school told us what is going on. But don’t hold your breath ... still waiting on the public announcement of the MBB numbers ... I’ve been given two different numbers privately, and the status quo wasn’t maintained.
Shaver buyout, plus decline in Gold Lot revenue, plus decline in MBB season tickets, plus increase in Administrators ... any of this addressed in the report that came out yesterday? Are those the real reasons for the perception that the skids are being greased for the cutting of sports? In other words, end the Shaver fallout “boycott”, or sports will be cut? Is the “boycott” cutting that deep? How solid can our revenue model be if a silly little “boycott” can be so devastating?
Finally, those of us involved in the “boycott” are sending a message. The silence of the school is indicative of the fact that the message is not getting through. Given what we know about human nature, that is not an effective way to address, and end, the “boycott”.
