Didn’t Rice interview Sonny Dykes either when they hired DB or Bloomgren? He has SMU looking great against TCU.

RE: Sonny Dykes
I know for sure we interviewed him when we hired Graham. May have when we hired Bailiff as well.

Could many of his recruits could get into Rice ?

We sure like two of your players that transferred to us and enjoy winning.

We are happy for them. Maybe they could tutor some of your guys.

I was rooting for SMU yesterday. Still my second favorite SWC school.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Sorry OO, can’t agree. They’re part of Dallas (as their current publicity campaign stresses.) I’m part of Houston.

Only thing is, the Houston that I feel I’m part of doesn’t exist anymore. I guess that sounds “old geezer.”

I do like Sonny Dykes, though...

Guess it goes back to high school for me. SMU was a second choice.

I am neither rHouston or Dallas, though I understand your old geezer comment all too well.

Sonny is a very good coach. And seems like he’s doing something at SMU that no one has done in quite a few seasons....really get the fan and alumni base excited, and move the team up several notches in competitiveness.
If he puts them at the top of the AAC this season or next, he’s gone to a P5 team...unless he can get SMU into the Big XII, or some such
Odds on that happening??

Maybe he can replace Chad Morris at Arkansas

The fanbase really wants Bobby Petrino back and if the team keeps going the way they are going the administration may find a way to make him acceptable again. One way might be to start whispering they are looking at bringing in Art Briles. They seem to be heading towards another Jack Crowe moment.

RE: Sonny Dykes
Arkansas has one big problem. Since they don't play in the SWC any more, they're not as attractive to Texas recruits as they once were. And in football they are not really a big player in the one top 100 metro area (Memphis) that includes any part of the state. Not saying they don't get any Texas recruits, but they don't have the pipeline they once did. And OU, Okie State, and LSU are probably more competition for good Texas kids than they once were. Having aTm in the SEC gets them back to the state every other year, but they're not going to take Texas kids away from aTm.

They're just not going to recruit football talent at the level of Bama, Auburn, LSU, or aTm. So unless those folks all screw it up, they're going to have a hard time recruiting or contending. They can pull an occasional rabbit out of the hat, but that's about it.

When they left the SWC, I told my SEC friends that, despite most expectations, they would be more competitive in basketball than football. Since joining the SEC, they've won a national championship and several conference championships in basketball, but not in football.

It’s funny that Arkansas hasn’t had more success in recruiting because IMO Fayetteville is the nicest town in the SEC West... Moreover, they probably have best corporate backing/money pipeline outside of perhaps A&M.

I do agree the lack of a talent pipeline is a problem. Memphis is Ole Miss and Tennessee country and though there are some great players in the rest of Arkansas and East Texas, it isn’t enough to build a team around when your hit rate won’t be 100%.
