Well, at least we held them to just 42 points total. They scored 42 points alone in the second quarter.

RE: College Football Week 4
Teams always do this but the math says don't kick a field goal to go from up 3 to up 6 late. Making the field goal actually lowers your chances of winning the game. UCF had 4th and 6 late and kicked. Should have just gone. If they don't get it and things go exactly the same, Pitt kicks on 4th and 2 to force OT. Coaches always end up playing more conservatively late when down 3. When you're down 6 they have to go for the TD and you don't have overtime to overcome it. If they get the TD they end the game. I commented on how they should have gone in the moment...it really bit them.

Yep, we had the same discussion in the coaches box last night...you never want to FORCE the opposing team to score in a way that they'll beat you. Force them to score to tie, never put them into a position where there is no way to tie a game.

A six point lead in football is the most dangerous lead in sports.

I agree, the problem I had was the announcers basically said it didn’t matter what they did. That’s where my problem was. With their recent record if they went undefeated while beating multiple P5 teams, as well as some very good AAC teams I think they have to be in the conversation, depending on how the other contenders end the season (of course if there are 3-4 unbeaten sits a different argument).

In the end, it’s a moot point. At least as far as UCF is concerned.

This game was over at the half. Jimbo will be gone after this season if not before. Les Miles to Michigan?

Or Luke Fickell. 05-stirthepot

I honestly don’t think Fickell would take the Michigan job. I may be completely wrong, but after how much it seemed to weigh on him to play OSU, even discussing with Urban Meyer about possibly getting out of the game, I ccan’t imagine him wanting to go up against them once a year with 100 times more eyes on the game.

Never know since it is a B10 job and in his recruiting hot bed, but I have a hard time seeing it.

They also left points on the field when they turned over on downs after getting stuffed on a 4th and 2 in the redzone (perhaps inside the 10?) Obviously you don't know how the rest of the game plays out but i thought that was a mistake.

SMU is now 4-0 and the class of the AAC so far. Who'da thunk!

What I think hurts the most is we will not get the NY6 bowl game now with a AAC team. Boise State has a cake walk for a season and will go to the NY6 bowl game now.

Still a lot of games to be played. Boise State has a couple of possible stumbling blocks...Hawaii, @BYU, @Utah State, could all be tough games IMO even if Boise is favored to win.

If Memphis or SMU are undefeated it’s possible they could leap frog Boise State. Even UC with an only loss to OSU could potentially leap frog them depending on how the season plays out (admittedly less likely).

I don’t think we can expect the American to win all P5 games, though it does hurt when what is widely considered to be the best team in the American by most of the “experts” loses to Pitt.

So is this the game theory of game theory? I'm open to the theory, but I'm not so sure about it especially at the high school and lower levels where kicking is often a big issue and thus can cut both ways. Mark or anyone got any data analysis links?

How many times will UCLA's basketball team fail to beat their football team's high score this season?

I agree a lot of games still to be played. But they are now favored in all their remaining games. BYU and Utah State are possibilities since they are away but Hawaii is a home game for Boise so they should handle them and Wyoming is home also.

Memphis does have a change to jump them is they keep up the winning. I think if we win out and beat UCF, Temple, and Memphis then we have a chance but that is a big ask.

I was definitely rooting for UCF and Temple in those games, but if there is one positive to the losses, at least those games seem more winnable than before. I was expecting 5-3 in conference based on what I've seen, but I feel a lot better about getting to 6-2 or 7-1 now.

They won that game? Holy moley! I was curious but then I saw it was like 49-17 in favor of #19 WSU @ WSU and figured it was over and opted for bed. I can't believe you guys hung in there. Crazy game...

Usually fcs games are at the beginning of the schedule. Maybe we're using the sec model.

I don't want to pass on a chance to bad mouth Nostra Damus.

yeah, they played Georgia to a 6 point game... technically. It was 23-10 until the final minutes and then they got the ball back after a garbage time TD to make themselves look better.

Georgia must somehow be a good matchup for them as they played them close two years ago too.

… Now watch them go out and beat Indiana State by 8.
