RE: 2019-20 MLB Off Season/Hot Stove Thread
I'll be curious to see what the Nats do. Cole, Bumgarner, Smith, Rendon and Grandal are all FA at positions of need for them. The best way to spread the money around might be Cole, Rendon, Smith and Vogt. It's expensive but there's little choice

Catcher is not a position of need. The Nats were right in the middle of the pack at catcher with Suzuki and Gomes.
We'll see about the rotation. If Stras stays, you have 4 quality starters, and then Ross/Fedde/Voth did pretty well for themselves. So really don't need rotation pieces at all. The big thing would be get the bullpen. And resign Rendon of course.

Apologies, I meant Angels, not Nats. This is why I hate posting on my phone.

Callaway fired by the Mets....
Only one really left now to see about is Kapler from Philly... unless there's a surprise one after playoffs.

Is it safe to say every single one of those clubs, with the exception of the Cubs, would pick Joe Maddon first if they can have him?
Seems to me, Maddon has his pick of jobs if he wants one this year and then everything else shakes out after that.

I think it'd be a major upset if he doesn't go back to the Angels.

Would I trade Roberts for Maddon? Right now I might. A week from now...?

Roberts got an extension. Dodgers fans' opinions are... mixed.
The narrative out here so far is not dominated by Kershaw apologists but by Roberts' detractors. He managed probably his worst game (3 innings?) ever and I think a lot of folks who had forgiven past lesser mistakes are finally at the point where a firing wouldn't have gotten a bunch of people up in arms. But I guess he would have been a pretty hot commodity if on the market.

Didn't get an extension, but rather didn't get fired.

That's right - I quickly scanned an article that implied he was given a 3 yr extension but it's just 3 years left on contract.

I have a feeling if same thing happens next season, he won't be as lucky.
