Do you root for your program's former coaches?
Just curious if people root for former head coaches to do well at their current jobs.

I've always rooted for Paul Johnson while he was at Tech, root for Jeff Monken at Army and to a lesser extend Chris Hatcher at Samford.

I'm pretty much indifferent about Willie Fritz and root against Brian VanButthead (now at Bowling Green as a DC).

RE: Do you root for your program's former coaches?
Mack Brown and Sparky Woods are at UNC so ..... that’s a no. No reason not to want to see Scott do well at UL though I don’t think I’ll ever actively root for UL. For the record I like both former coaches at UNC. It’s just a matter of guilt by association. I worked for the student radio station and interviewed Sparky a couple of times. Couldn’t have been more gracious to 19 year old that didn’t know what they were doing. Coach Brown has been a guest speaker at some major fund raising events so thanks for that.

We never had any that amounted to anything so who cares? (sarcasm off now)

I don't care for Louisville, hated them before they took Satterfield. The amount of App fans still fawning over him is ridiculous.

I’m okay with Harsin winning at Boise. The other two? Never

I've been keeping track of Neal Brown and Co. He's going to do a great job at WVU.

I don’t want any of our former coaches to fail. I want them to show they can win at the highest level. It reflects well back on us.

For whatever reason, Malzahn was the only one that really pissed me off. And yes, I wish he’d lose every game....but he won’t. He’s also the best coach that came through ASU.

We only have 1 former coach. I still like him and hope he succeeds, he was one of the best all around guys you could meet and showed nothing but class for our program.

Hud is now at Austin Peay. I hope he does well. Liked his family. And, I liked him personally.

I hope the former coaches in our league do well. That includes Neal Brown and Satterfield.

Not a fan of Freeze or Malzahn. We beat the Red Wolves in Jonesboro when Harsin was coach so I like him a lot LOL.

Joey Jones is a class act. Hope he has success everywhere he goes.

We didn't play GS when Fritz was there. He's doing very well at Tulane. But I can't root hard for him because we have to recruit against Tulane.

I like Joey Jones as person, just would have liked to see the team play with more discipline and do better for conference games. He could get the team up for big games. We would always have penalties at the worst times.

I don't think Willy ever unpacked his suitcase. His heart was not in it and he left at the first opportunity... coincidentally when we needed him to stay the most. So, no I do not pull for him to succeed, but have to admit he is a great coach that will succeed regardless.

Really pulling for Sat and that coaching staff at UL. With Sat and a lot of those guys, it's more than just former coach, they were also players here and now part of the Jerry Moore coaching tree. I think their future success reflects positively for Coach Moore and App football in general.

Actually, I was curious about how Hud is doing at Austin Peay so I watched a replay of their game against Mercer last week. I was amazed at how much his current team looked like the early years he was at UL. They are very opportunistic on defense and thrive on turnovers, as the Cajuns were the first couple years of the Hudspeth era. I would not call myself a fan of Hud, but I am glad he seems to be doing well in his new role. He made many mistakes at UL, but he did man up to them at the end. When he did leave, he went out in a classy manner. He did provide some great memories for UL fans while he was here.

Well its not just Neal Brown as he took most of his staff with him to WVU. I dont really root for him but I understand NB being succesful at this level could be positive pub for us. But maybe I am just naive. ArkSt fans have some more experience with this due to Malzahn/Auburn. Not sure if this makes sense.

Malzahn Auburn is just one of three experiences we had.
