RE: Mascot Idea?
I've been saying this for years! Have an exhibit like they have at LSU. And to up the ante, throw in one of whatever the mascot is of the team we are playing that week. Marshall? See how Blaze does with a bison.

Komodo dragons do not disable their prey by spitting on them. Ether the zoo employee was ignorant (which I doubt), they were trying to get rid of Ingram, or Ingram was embellishing. Either way it would need to be caged and that would just piss of the peta crowd. On a slightly related topic Sharon Stone's husband was attacked by a Komodo dragon while visiting a zoo

RE: Mascot Idea?
A live Komodo is a bad idea at a game; I spent some time working with them in a zoo. Several problems come to mind. They are not venomous in as much as their saliva is chock full of nasty bacteria. It is bad enough that zoos treat them as if they were a "hot" (venomous) animal. They don't spit, but they drool a lot. They are large, heavy, strong but not very smart. An 8' long male weighs in about 150 - 200 lbs.
Moving the thing to the stadium and making sure no one got drooled on or got a body part ripped off would be another trick. It would be neat to have one, but it would be hard to pull off.

Love the enthusiasm and outside the box thinking but those are some of the most ugly and ill tempered creatures on earth.

Live mascots should be outlawed. What's the real point.

That’s a tad extreme if you’re serious

Research from Australia as reported by the National Geographic society found that Komodo Dragons are indeed venomous.
Quote:Komodo dragons kill using a one-two punch of sharp teeth and a venomous bite, scientists have confirmed for the first time...
Researchers have long thought that the Komodo dragon, native to Indonesia, kills via blood poisoning caused by the multiple strains of bacteria in the dragon's saliva.
But "that whole bacteria stuff has been a scientific fairy tale," said Bryan Fry, a venom researcher at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
Fry and colleagues studied the biochemistry of Komodo venom after they had the rare opportunity to examine two dragons from zoos that both had to be put down due to terminal illnesses.
The team found that the dragon's venom rapidly decreases blood pressure, expedites blood loss, and sends a victim into shock, rendering it too weak to fight.

Komodo Dragon's Lethal Saliva a Myth, says New Study
That being said, I couldn't care less, having one or not makes zero difference to me.

I saw someone on twitter saying that Coach didn't have a big problem with a komodo dragon, but he thought that it should be stationed on the visiting sideline. >grin<

RE: Mascot Idea?
(bluetext) How many premium seats/rows would the lizard cage take away from the visitors' side of the new stadium? Just pushing more people to the corners and end zones! (/bluetext)

Yeah I am guessing they were talking about the saliva which is full of harmful bacteria and he either inferred or embellished from there.
