Here we go:

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story...e-athletes

If this gets through, the P5 is going to zip away from the rest at warp speed. Won't be any catching them....

My guess is this would really depress a lot of interest in the college game.

Should also revoke non-profit status of the universities.

If anything, this makes them less "for-profit" than the current system. They're now redistributing revenues back to students. I don't like this nearly as much as the idea that students can receive payments for use of their likeness. No way this will move forward past about 25 schools. I would like it far more if the NCAA redistributed their own earnings to student athletes instead of sitting on a Scrooge McDuck style vault of cash.

Also, can I just ask, how is a scholarship athlete being paid different from me receiving a full Cincinnatus Scholarship in 2006 then making $45,000 on co-ops in five years of school? I'd love to see the mental gymnastics performance needed to justify that.

My opinion at this point is either go full professional, pay for play or not. If they are getting paid, fine, then stop with the tuition and room and board, etc and phony class taking. Cant have your cake and eat it too.

I agree. I say that from personal experience. Most people don't graduate from P5's. Not sure how shrinking an audience creates more money.

With that said, my visit to Ohio Stadium, the almost 2 mile walk, the $90 ozone seats, made think just how lousy the big-time college experience can be. Removing what happened on the field, a game in Columbus is a joyless experience.
